Sears Delighted to Be a Blue

New signing Freddie Sears says he’s delighted to have joined the Blues, the 25-year-old having signed a contract until June 2017 this morning after Town agreed an undisclosed fee with Colchester United.

“I’d heard there was a bit of interest at the start of January and then I got a call from my agent on Tuesday saying it was going to happen but after the weekend,” Sears, who has been given the Town number 20 shirt, told the club site.

“Then I got another call yesterday saying it was on for today. I had the medical last night and signed this morning and I’m delighted to be an Ipswich Town player.

“I had a great time at Colchester but it was always my ambition to work my way up the league and play at a high level and coming to Ipswich gives me that opportunity.

“The team are flying at the moment, just a point off the top and there are some really good quality players here.

“The manager is obviously a big name in the game and I’ve only heard good things about him, so when I knew he wanted me it was a straightforward decision for me. I couldn’t wait to come.

“It’s great that it’s been completed before the weekend and now I’m just looking forward to the challenge of helping the boys try to get in the Premier League.”

Sears is set to go straight into the Town squad for tomorrow’s match at Millwall.
