McCarthy: Taylor Won't Be Back - Full Stop
Saturday, 31st Jan 2015 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says striker Paul Taylor won’t return to Town regardless of whether he finds a new side before the transfer window closes on Monday. The 27-year-old hasn't returned to the club since his loan at Rotherham ended a fortnight ago and his agent is dealing with securing him a move elsewhere.

“He’s not back here,” McCarthy said when asked whether the £1.5 million signing from Peterborough had returned to Portman Road following his spell with the Millers. “And he’s not coming back.”

Have there been any enquiries regarding him? “I don’t know whether there’s any interest in him.

“I’ve left that with [his agent]. That’s not something I’m dealing with because he’s not coming back, full stop.”

Even if he doesn’t find a club before the deadline he won’t be coming back? “Correct.”

Taylor, who is understood to be the club’s highest-earning player on around £10,000 a week, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Asked whether the club will settle the remaining months of the striker’s contract, McCarthy added: “I’m not that interested because it’s not something I’m dealing with.

“He’s not coming back and his agent’s been dealing with it. It’s with him and Paul. He’s not coming back, full stop.”

Liverpudlian Taylor joined the Blues in August 2012 but suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for the club.

He returned to action in the summer of 2013 but has played only a handful of games with McCarthy evidently not a fan.

Last season he spent time on loan back at Peterborough and he spent most of the first half of this season with the Millers.

The Capital One Cup defeat at Crawley in August is Taylor’s only appearance for the Blues this season.

walberswicks: Marcus Evans employed so called football managers (referring to the previous two) to guide him through these early years of this new venture, so he just wrote cheques under there guidance ??? I suppose in a way it could be called Fraud !!!!

Cant recall this happening in my over 50 years supporting Town;but clearly from what we have heard, seen and witnessed Mick would appear to be doing the right thing.
Marcus Evans certainly made several errors in the early days of ownership;by appointing two bad managers, plus leaving novice Clegg in charge;but he certainly seems to have learnt from these including having a more hands on role than at first.
In having MM he has found someone who like Sir Bobby enjoys the role outside of pure coaching as Mick said yesterday.Dont think he will be choosing the curtains in the boardroom though,or answering phone as Sir Bobby once did to me.
Am not sure if we will make it this year to the Prem as seem unable or unwilling to match the other promotion contenders in spending;but even so the turnaround at the club has been astounding since Taylor was bought just before Micks arrival and long may it continue.

No doubt that he has some talent, BUT, nowhere near as much as some on here would suggest, he couldn't make the team at Rotherham so he cant be that good can he.
Regardless of how good he was anyway he is not the sort of person I want at ITFC and the sooner he goes the better ,

Daz - we do know what he did, it was all detailed from the court reports in the press, along with his past.
Hence my comments on him being not the sort of character I personally want at ITFC.

why didn't we buy George Boyd instead of this shrimp? didn't we do any checks on what sort of character he is?

£500,000 a year; if I was paid that I would at least manage to behave myself, work hard, get on with my colleagues; all the sort of things I do anyway on a salary a fraction of that!

Dozz managers are there to manage players. Which mick has done. Taylor sound like he has some issues but we don't know what happened in the club. The business of him hitting a Ipswich person in town set people minds then. He's a kid and most are but we expect them to act like they are 40+ . Ps 10,000 pw was not alot a few years bk. Please anyone hit minus and prove my point of being idiots

Daz; 27 is not "a kid", by that age you are supposed to have learnt how to behave yourself.

Ipswichbusiness, you think they grow up quicker being footballers? under 30 for alot of people is still a kid. Only society says they are men. hey i'm 17 a teenager, wow i'm 18 a man. doesn't work that way. everyone is different. Any how judge him on his football not stuff that don't really concern us.

Daz, footballers have an unusual amount of support around them. At 27 quite a lot of people have children of their own. Off-field conduct can be important when it drags down the reputation of the Club, impairs fitness or, in extreme circumstances, makes the player unavailable for selection ( e.g. By being locked up). Judging by the Wikipedia entry, all the warning signs were there; lots of talent but little self-discipline. A very poor Jewell signing (actually, I don't blame him for the wages, that was Jewell's fault, It is the waste of talent that is the shame.)

Rubbish player. Clearly a trouble maker and a disruption. Top marks Mick for dealing with him. Once his wages are off the books we can use them to sign better team players. We're nearly cleansed of the keane/Jewell debacles!
