Town Advice to Fans Travelling to Norwich
Thursday, 26th Feb 2015 06:04

Town have issued advice to fans making the trip to Norwich for the derby at Carrow Road on Sunday (KO 2.05pm). The Blues have been given 2,000 tickets for their visit to Norfolk, which will be shown live by Sky.

There will be no designated ‘away’ fans' pub at Norwich, the pub that has opened previously has decided that it does not wish to open on the day.

The Riverside Hotel opposite Ipswich station will be open from 9am, while the Wetherspoons pubs in town - The Cricketers, Golden Lion and Robert Ransome - also open early.

Coaches will be escorted from Ipswich by Suffolk police outriders, who will escort the coaches directly to their destination near Carrow Road and will need to co-ordinate their arrival with the special train.

All supporters are to be encouraged to go directly to the stadium, which will open at 12 noon, earlier than usual, so that people can get a drink/food from the visitors' section.

There will be no ‘bubble’ and supporters will walk freely from/to the coaches/trains/car parks to the stadium. However, there will be a large police presence to guide and protect fans along the way from the station and coach parks.

The special train will be departing Ipswich at 12.35pm, calling at Stowmarket only. It leaves Norwich at 4.20pm, again calling at only Stowmarket, which will only allow supporters approximately 20 minutes after the match to get back to the station. Obviously there will be normal service trains running which supporters could catch if required.

The coaches are escorted for a number of reasons. Obviously to stop silly budgies cause trouble on the way. They will also ensure a smooth run in, clearing traffic lights and blocking off roundabouts to give us an interrupted and unbroken journey to the car park. This is pretty standard practice everywhere else.

Otherwise as said above it is pretty relaxed with our fans free to do as they please before the game. So why is there all this whinging, anyone would think we were a bunch of scousers always trying to find someone to blame ?

Long shot I know but has anyone got a spare ticket for the game?

Just saw the following post on the naarwich fans forum site:

"I do believe this weekend's game will go straight into the "Norwich fans' 10 favourite derbies" list by the way. I even think it could be number 1."

Clearly they are very confident but we will take them down a peg or two on Sunday. When the Town players look up into the stands and see our mighty 2000 supporters, there will be a roar...COYB !

Hang on oldegold, what are you talking about football for? This is meant to be about coaches and police overtime and where to buy a pint of beer and....oh yeah! there is that small matter of the most significant derby for a decade. I'd bloody roller skate there if I had to.

I shall be sitting on my comfy sofa, living in the heart of Budgie land, or to be precise North Norfolk, really hoping for a win but have a bad feeling about this one to be honest, they are doing really well under the new manager, shame we did not have this game in November ish! then we would have given them a thumping, but now i,m not so confident, but please prove me wrong town!

....... problem is there is an element associated with every Club, some would call them idiots - therefore the Police have to take all reasonable caution.

Can we prove we do not have such people - AND TRY TO ENJOY THE DAY, whatever the result - otherwise just do not go.

SIMPLE REALLY.

"Town advice to fans travelling to Norwich" (this sounds like one of them government travel warnings!) All (blue) nationals are advised to leave the area at the earliest opportunity, we are advising against travel, but if essential take precautions & the following equipment: 1. A balaclava, 2. A bottle of fresh clean drinking water, 3. A mobile phone, 4. A blue & white scarve!! COYBs

Just a curious question, since I live in Sweden and have not yet been to a derby game.
Has there really been serious trouble between Ipswich and Norwich supporters in "modern" times? From my experience the Town supporters are really well behaved and (now I will probably get slammed here) I don´t believe Naarwich fans are a disgrace either.
From what I know the policing and restrictions seem a bit over the top?

I would just like to point out that it will be their profits that you will be contributing to. Stop and buy your drink and food this side of the Suffolk/Norfolk border!

Seems from one Naarwich site that we are not going to be locked in after the game.
That half hour after a win has been quite enjoyable in the past.
The first lock in that I can recall is when we beat them 2-0 just before xmas 1992 although my memories of derbies in Norfolk go back to 1964.
