McGoldrick Expected Back for Fulham Trip
Thursday, 12th Feb 2015 14:22

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he expects striker David McGoldrick to be available for Saturday’s trip to Fulham.

McGoldrick missed the 2-1 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday having picked up a thigh problem at Rotherham last week.

“I’m hoping he’ll be available for the weekend and then if that’s the case we’ll be back to nearly everybody being right,” McCarthy said.

“There’s only Luke Hyam and he has a long-term injury so he was always going to be a while.

“It’ll be great to have Didz back, you miss your best players and he’s been one of our best players.”

Hyam suffered a medial ligament injury in the FA Cup replay against Southampton and was expected to be sidelined for around six weeks.

McCarthy confirmed that recently signed winger Dylan Connolly, 19, will travel with the senior squad for the first time.

The Blues boss also dismissed this morning’s tabloid claim that he was interested in signing Leeds midfielder Rodolph Austin on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Asked whether there was any truth in the report, he said: “No, he’s a good player, but no.”

McCarthy says no moves in or out are currently on the cards: “There’s nobody going out on loan. I’ve not had any discussions about that and there’s nobody imminently moving in either.”

McGoldrick is definitely not the player he was prior to the injury last season and the bid from Leicester. Yes he has class but seems to have a look of Marcus Bent (for those who remember him). For me Sears is a definite starter as should be Parr at right back.

None of us know exactly what 'issues' ,if any , McGoldrick has......let's hope it's nothing major, and a cracking goal gets him firing again on all cylinders. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench next game, and don't believe he would any reason to complain if this is the case.
Obviously Murphy has eclipsed him this season thus far, but as a team, all lost their way over recent weeks, so let's hope our midweek win helps spring board the group as one, not as individuals.

Would love to see Murphy, McGoldrick and Sears start, with a place for Ambrose in midfield, and of course Parr at RB, but Mick doesn't play fantasy football, therefore I would imagine he will play with 2 strikers. Fulham have struggled against teams that have, from the kick-off, put them on the back foot. Should be a good game.

He may be "quote" one of our best players but he was 'nt Tuesday night or for most of this season its the bench please and bring him on to freshen it up in the second half as the 4000 cheer on 3 points Saturday.

I'm a fan of McGoldrick however think Sears has earned the right to keep his position.
McGoldrick coming off the bench gives us a different option, and maybe coming on against tired defenders will help him start scoring again!!

Great to have a striker a available for the bench. But the bench only. He's been poor.

Yep difficult decision for Mick...maybe a bench warming session might help it seemed to help Mings in the last game. McG has been trying but with little success.

If we had Didsy from last year and Murphy from this year we'd be top and clear... peaks and troughs I suppose.

I'd be surprised to see all three, Didz, Murph and Freddy, from the start, especially in a tough away game. But what a great option to have with those three linking up if we need to kick it up a notch.

Didzy was our best player last year and is still our best player whether he's scoring or play making. He's premiership quality. Some people need to get off his back.
