Knockaert Opts Against Town Move
Wednesday, 25th Feb 2015 13:18

Town’s loan move for Leicester midfielder Anthony Knockaert has broken down. The 23-year-old was due to link up with the Blues later in the week with the clubs having agreed a deal.

As TWTD reported earlier in the week, Knockaert has been back in his native France for the last few days and now, having returned to the club, has decided he doesn't want to leave the Foxes.

Manager Mick McCarthy suggested that the deal might have broken down when questioned about Knockaert by Radio Suffolk following last night’s 4-2 victory over Birmingham when he said he didn’t expect anyone to sign before Sunday’s derby at Norwich

The former Guingamp man, who has struggled to win a place in the Leicester side since their promotion, is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to be interesting a number of overseas clubs, who are entitled to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.

Knockaert is understood to believe he will be better served by remaining with a Premier League side while he searches for a new side rather than taking a drop into the Championship.

Questioned on his interest in Knockaert on Monday, McCarthy said he had made approaches for a number of other players: “I’ve spoken to lots of clubs about lots of players, if someone throws that one out.

“He’s a quality player and if I could get somebody of that quality then why wouldn’t I? But I’ve spoken to loads of people. I don’t know how these stories get out, somebody tells [someone].”

He later added: “I go back to my original comment, whether we can get anybody, if they can make us better then I would try and do it."

i DOUBT THAT EVEN POSTING IT TWICE IN ERROR WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN !!!!!!!

I doubt that Mick will pick this team - but I really don't know why - personally I like Smith - but for the BEST 442 he has to go. Play 3-5-2 and he's in.

Looks solid - and skilful, with a load of pace where you need it ....

Tabb may well play in Skuse place - but that is ok as an injury replacement NOT as a positive choice..... And where does Ando fit into this best 11 ??

Yes ... before you start heckling me - - I've not picked McGoldrick as I believe he is unfit - or at least lacking in match fitness

I think this is our best 11 from who we have fit (sorry, Tommy!)

I think the Nokia man should have joined - but perhaps he realised that he would not start every game and so might damage his reputation sitting on a championship bench, rather than a premier league one - maybe I'm wrong.

PJH reckon if we had gone 3 up he would have got his chance. Think he will have the portman road faithful when they see him in full fligh. A fans favourite in the making.

Anyone half decent always seem to pull the plug except Freddie Sears of coarse who i am extremely happy to be at town one of Micks better signings and there's been a few and also some bad ones too works out about 50 50 i would say, o well lets hope what we have got can bring home the points on Sunday Mick and all the players know how important this game is to us supporters so perhaps they will give a little bit extra.

why are people actually questioning kingburleys comment. if he doesn't want to come here then we are better off without him. no point in having some1 here not giving his all because he not wanna be here. lighteningboy. why bring up jonny Williams again/ when are people gonna realise, that even if he was fit we cant sign him again this season as its against the rules to sign a player on an emergency loan twice in a season. don't know how many times people need to be told that before making pointless comments about signing him.

He probably saw how Cameron Stewart and others have been handled after being brought in by MM and thought- pas pour moi!

He sounds like he could have been another TAYLOR or CHOPRA in other words someone with talent but no brains and like I've said before we don't want any bad apples at this stage. Forget him and move on we have STEWART CONNOLLY and HENSHALL that we haven't even really seen in action yet..........and don't forget we still got TABB and ANDERSON :)

No ambition from Knockaert. He could have had 10/12 games to perform and put himself in the shop window for the summer. Instead he'd rather sit on the bench for a team set for relegation.

This is the first knock back I think Mick has had.
Having said that though most of the players he has signed were a/ without a current club b/loanees who were not rated by their current club c/,free transfers or bosmans.

Of the very few players Mick has paid money for strangely enough the two most expensive @ £100k each were both from Colchester. One has already moved on (Woody) and of course we have Freddie Freddie Freddie Freddie Freddie Sears a great prospect.

It is not so easy to get players from Premiership clubs even on loan(Benty) especially when they are good players who have plenty of clubs to choose from.

If he came to PR it is highly unlikely he would get many starts as he really is not a MM type of player-he has bags of skill & won't run around like a demented chicken

I dont understand why people think this guy was going to go straight in our starting 11.Mick most likely will leave him on the bench like Stewart,Henstall or young Connelly,This lad and the others would and have been looking at Tabb,Anderson playing out wide when clearly they are not wingers.Cant for the life of me see why if true Mick has an interest in any wingers as he bloody dosent play them.Lets put this silly player approach to one side as what attacking wide man would come here and warm the bench like the rest.

Good grief, we are giving more votes to posts putting our own side down than we are to those being positive! There are now so many negative posters on this forum that it feels like you are either naive or comitting some crime whenever you praise the team or management. All this despite the fact that we are in a position most of us would have given our right arms for at the start of the season. MM didn't want news of this potential signing getting out but it did and then broke down, no blame to attach. Let's face it, it is up Knockert if he moves or not and I don't think we can judge either him or our management on the basis of these stories. We move on and I really do trust MM because I don't think if anyone who has ever posted on this forum tried to do his job we'd be anywhere near the top of the league.

We got our fingers burnt with the last Frenchman to grace our team.
If he was that good surely he would get in to a team heading for relegation.
Obviously hasn't done enough for Pearson to offer him a new term at Leicester.
Sounds like a JET type player.
