David Wright the Next Legend on the Town
Tuesday, 24th Mar 2015 09:42

The Supporters Club’s third Legends on the Town event of the season takes place at the Dove Street Inn on Friday 10th April and features former full-back David Wright, who is now a coach at the academy (7.30pm, doors open 7pm).

Wright joined the Blues in January 2007 and made 125 starts and three sub appearances, scoring five times, before moving on in June 2010. He hung up his boots earlier in the season while with Colchester United, having already started to work as a coach at Playford Road.

Hosted by Simon Milton, the evening, which is in aid of the academy, will include a question and answer session, as well as a raffle and auction.

Tickets cost £5 and you can reserve your place by phone on 07968 876504 or by email.

A good player in his day but a legend?

The greatest crime of mismanagement the club has committed in the last decade is not replacing David Wright. It was bad enough to let him go at the time, but to this day we have not signed a permanent right back who can defend & is ready to play at Championship level.
Just saying is all.

Maybe "The Greatest Crime" is a bit over the top given the overall behaviour of Roy Keane.

I have supported Ipswich since the mid 1970s and was in London end of October 2009 for a function and decided it was time to visit Portman Road given that we had yet to win any of the first 14 games and were in the bottom three.
The game was against Derby and after an hour it was still 0-0 and I was becoming increasingly worried and then in c65th minute David Wright scored with a bullet like header and Ipswich saw the game out. Low and behold Wright was let go in a 2010 transfer window presumably with Keane's say so.
While David Wright might not be a legend in the way say Wark, Marriner, Butcher, Mills and company are he certainly made my afternoon so am delighted that he is back at the club.
