Rae Leaving Dundee
Rae Leaving Dundee
Friday, 22nd Feb 2002 11:46

Long-time Town target Gavin Rae is set to leave current club Dundee in the summer. The central midfielder has been watched by George Burley on many occasions and may be a player he looks to when he begins his summer dealing.

Back in October Burley's interest in Rae prompted one journalist to suggest Town would break their transfer record to bring him to Portman Road. However, George Burley said at the time that it was news to him, although he said he knew "all about Gavin Rae".

Now Dundee are resigned to losing the £2.5 million-rated Scottish international central midfielder, but only if they get the right offer. Chief executive Peter Marr says that England looks like it will be Rae's destination: "We have had interest from England for Gavin and I'm quite sure something might happen. I know there is one English club who are very, very interested in him although at the moment there isn't that much money being thrown around. Gavin will tell you he's not playing that well at the moment. Alex McLeish was up watching him against Dunfermline the other week but we've not had any contact from Rangers. In the last two weeks we've had enquiries for some of our players but we've refused them because they haven't met our valuations."

Rae, 24, has played twice for Scotland as well as making 151 appearances for Dundee, scoring 18 goals.

He has also been linked with Watford, Charlton, Chelsea, Everton and Fulham.
