Williams After More Magic Moments
Thursday, 2nd Apr 2015 06:00

Jonny Williams is dreaming of at least one more magic moment to light up his third spell on loan at Town from Crystal Palace.

Williams, fit again but still waiting for his first taste of competitive action since November, returned to the Blues on Thursday, deadline day, and looks set to play some part, probably from the bench, against AFC Bournemouth on Good Friday.

He said: “Of course I’ve had thoughts like that and it would be great if that happened. I had it last time when I stepped off the bench and scored at Sheffield Wednesday on my return debut. That was a big moment for me. I really hope there can be more moments like that.

“Doing well at Brighton in my first spell was also one of those moments too. It meant a lot to me to play well that day because it’s never nice to be called a ‘Palace reject’. I could hear that as well as everyone else could.

“Another thing I remember about that game was how Cressy managed to pull my shorts down that day, which was interesting!”

Williams is back for a third loan stint as he looks to continue his comeback from the injury sustained in Town’s 1-0 home win over Watford back in November, but he retains the hope that new Palace boss Alan Pardew will want to retain his services at Selhurst Park.

He added: “It’s very exciting for me to have the chance to work with the manager there. He’s a great manager and everyone’s seen what he’s already achieved at Palace. He’s got us playing some nice football so it’s exciting for me to try to get back fit and work my way into the team there.

“As far as I know they still want me there. I’ve got three years left on my contract at Palace so I want to focus on getting in the team there at some point. It’s been a while since I started a league game at Palace.

“The last league game I actually started for them was the play-off final in 2013. It’s been quite a long time since I played a number of games at Palace so I’m looking forward to being fully fit for pre-season and hopefully catching the manager’s eye then.”

But before then Williams hopes to help Town book automatic promotion — or at least cement a play-off place — and he added: “I haven’t had the lads ask me about promotion and the play-offs yet because I’ve only been back a few days, but I’m sure the closer it might get the more people might ask me about it.

“Some players don’t ever get the chance to play at Wembley and I did that when I was 19. That’s pretty amazing when I look back on it.

“The semis are just as important to be honest. Hopefully we don’t have to worry about that stress though and we can finish in the top two.”

I really hope we get to see Jonny tomorrow. He brings the crowd alive.

I can't see him starting but it will be great to have him on the bench and to come on for 15 minutes at the end.

I am now really looking forward to tomorrow. We can beat Bournemouth!
