Released Defender Sowunmi Set for Yeovil
Thursday, 11th Jun 2015 17:54

Released U21s defender Omar Sowunmi is set to join League Two Yeovil Town. In April the 19-year-old was told he wouldn’t be kept on by the Blues with the one-year pro deal he signed last summer after completing his academy scholarship up at the end of June.

The central defender from Colchester spent time on loan at Braintree and Lowestoft during 2014/15 and had looked likely to join the Trawlerboys on a permanent basis, however, the Vanarama National League North side have revealed that Sowunmi has won a contract with the Glovers after a trial at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Blues striker Daryl Murphy continues to be the subject of speculation with QPR the latest Championship side to be linked, while January’s claims of Hull City interest have also been revived.

The 32-year-old, who was reported to be the subject of a rebuffed £2.5 million offer from Middlesbrough yesterday, is currently away with the Ireland squad ahead of Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.

Elsewhere, ex-Blues keeper Richard Wright, 37, has been named on Manchester City’s retained list.

The former England international, whose son Harry, also a keeper, is rejoining the Town academy as a full-time scholar this summer, initially signed for the Premier League club in 2012 but is still to appear for them in a competitive game.

A bit surprised we let him go. Promising youngster who can only get better. Centre half's take longer to mature than others, so I think I would have showed a little bit more patience with him.

Don't know the lad, how good he is playing or training; or what he is like as a person. So cannot comment.

However, amazed at Richard Wright being kept on by City. Been on the books of Arsenal, Everton and Man City and how many matches has he played?. Can't help thinking it was a wasted career playing wise, although I am sure he has made a pile out of it.

I wish him well. Also good to see clubs doing their transfer business early, quite right.

Might be one that got away.

Can't believe Weight is still creaming it. The man's hardly kicked a ball in anger for 10 years!

I often wonder what would have happened if Wright had an agent like Petr Cech's. When Cech signed for Chelsea he had a clause saying he would play the first dozen games he was fit. If Wright had had that when he went to Arsenal it could have been so different.

Top man, saw Omar play for Lowestoft a few times , very accomplished, powers of recovery excellent, threat up front too. Maybe gets caught ball watching sometimes but that's just over enthusiasm. Also brought Tyrone up to watch as well so will miss both of them on the Meadow. All the best, will hear plenty from them in the future.
