Newcastle Make Mings Enquiry Claims
Thursday, 18th Jun 2015 09:14

Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry regarding Blues left-back Tyrone Mings.

According to the Northern Echo, one of a couple of North-East papers running the story, the Magpies, now managed by Steve McClaren, were quoted an initial fee of £8 million for the 22-year-old with Town said to want an overall deal worth £10 million once further clauses were taken into account.

The Blues have long been understood to be targeting an eight-figure fee for the highly-rated full-back.

Newcastle were amongst the Premier League clubs regularly represented at Portman Road last season to keep tabs on Mings and were claimed to have made an unsuccessful £4 million bid for the ex-Chippenham man in January.

At the weekend, West Brom were reported to be showing interest, while the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and most of the rest of the Premier League have also been mentioned in connection with Mings at some stage over the last year or so, the Blues having turned down a £3.5 million offer from Crystal Palace last summer.

In September last year Mings, who cost the Blues £10,000 when he was signed from the Evo-Stick League Chippenham in December 2012, signed a contract which runs to the summer of 2017.

Elsewhere, former Blues winger Gary Roberts, 31, has joined Portsmouth from Chesterfield, signing a three-year deal.

i will repeat what i said at the beginning of last season and we had the rumours of cresswell being sold , a leftback or defender will not win you the league, quality midfielders and strikers will. cresswell went for half of what is being touted for mings but was a better defender by far , i say sell mings for 6-8 million if we can get it 'more would be great' that could get us 2 quality midfielders another rightback and backup striker if needed more than enough with our squad to get promoted !!

A bird in the hand and all that!
Look what happened with Didsy, who a year ago was being talked of in similar, terms.
Then another serious injury and nobody mentions him anymore in those terms thank goodness.

Does anyone know if there was a next-sale clause from Chippenham? If so, they're about to hit the jackpot.
