Town Issue High Court Writ Against Suffolk Police
Wednesday, 24th Jun 2015 15:38

Town have issued a High Court writ against Suffolk Constabulary seeking £511,869 it claims it was illegally billed for policing outside Portman Road at home games between 2008 and 2013.

In 2012 the High Court ruled that West Yorkshire Police had overcharged Leeds United for "special police services" between 2009 and 2012, the Whites having argued that policing the roads and car parks around Elland Road is not their responsibility.

As a result of that ruling, Town are understood to be amongst a number of clubs taking similar action to reclaim cash previously paid - plus interest - for policing around stadia on matchdays. The Blues were charged from £5,926 to £25,242 per fixture.

A club spokesman told TWTD: “The matter is with both respective legal advisors and the club has no further comment to make at this time.”

A police statement reads: “We are aware of the writ but as this is subject to ongoing legal proceedings it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

Good. But aI expect it will cost half a mil' to pursue the case unless Ian Milne does it himself. I think he is a solicitor. A pity the Club don't have the same determination to review the ticketing and pricing policy.

jason0999 - ...... they are just trying to screw every penny out of everyone - if they ask me yet again for proof of age, they can stick the whole thing. My monthly (significant) direct debit payment to the Club will be stopped post haste.

This after being a season ticket holder - for decades.

On My earlier point, the reason the Club are pursuing this is because they have not sold enough Season Tickets to balance the Books due to the incompetent financial management of the People making such decisions at the Club, Sally Webb excepted whom I regard as fully competent and entirely worthy of the position she holds.

Maybe if we win the case we will be able to buy a player of five with the money.

The evidence suggests not Westy. As of 19 May Season tickets sales were up a 1,000 vs the same time last year, and the average home gate last season was 15% more than the season before.

Particularly given that ITFC were previously stung, retrospectively, for a rent increase by IBC, I have no issue with this.

as a tax payer.... im already getting fuc*ed over? this is just irrelevent news which make want to spout negativity. its divides people and forces them to admit injustice instead of stating the REAL problem with this 'court case'?
change starts within people
