Blues and Old Firm Linked With Hibs Midfielder
Sunday, 28th Jun 2015 10:13

Town are keen to sign Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan but face opposition from Celtic and Rangers, according to a report in Scotland.

The Daily Record says the Blues are targeting the 23-year-old, who has previously been widely linked with the Ibrox side - the club he supports - while SPL champions Celtic are also believed to be long-term admirers.

Glasgow-born Allan joined Dundee United when aged 10 and, following a loan spell at Forfar, broke into their side in 2011/12. Soon after making his breakthrough he was linked with a move to the Blues.

He moved on to West Brom for £300,000 in December 2011 after turning down the offer of a new contract with the Terrors, having made only four starts and five sub appearances while at Tannadice.

The Scottish U17 and U21 international was a Baggies player for two years but was unable to force his way into the first team and spent time on loan at Portsmouth (twice), the MK Dons and Birmingham City.

Having made only three starts and four sub appearances during a season-long stint at St Andrew’s, West Brom released him and he joined Hibs last summer.

Allan, who has been a type 1 diabetic since he was a child, impressed back in Scotland and was named the SPFL Championship Player of the Year. He made 37 starts and five sub appearances during 2014/15, scoring twice.

In November 2010, while with Dundee United, Allan was charged with assault following an incident in Glasgow in which two men were hospitalised and three men were later convicted, but the charges against him were dropped due to insufficient evidence.

The playmaker has a year left on his deal at Easter Road and has previously been valued at £400,000.

Having sold Tyrone Mings to Bournemouth for an initial £8 million earlier in the week paying a fee of that magnitude would no longer be beyond the Blues.

Speaking earlier in the week, Allan said he was ignoring the speculation about his future, but admitted that a return to English football would appeal at some point: “Obviously in the future I would like another chance down there.

“But for me right now it’s all about kicking on next season and doing better than I did last year. I have got a year left and nothing has changed.”

Replacement for Anderson or S.Hunt I'd assume.
We will be linked a lot now. We have lost 14 players, gained 3 but are still well understaffed.

Out
Kenny,
Sowunmi
Ambrose
Chaplow
S.Hunt
N.Hunt
Fryers
Wyatt
mings
Anderson
Varney (injured throughout most of next season)
Taylor (fully signed by Blackburn now)
Wordsworth
Hewitt
Marriott

Oh..that's 15 out. I stand corrected. I wasn't including Taylor as forgot he was still signed to us until now.

On the positive side our first team is still pretty intact, and this will give a huge opportunity to Stewart, McDonnell, Connolly and Henshall to prove their worth.

Not sure about how to count players out really. How many of them actually played any major part of the season? Mings yes. Anderson was in and out of the team (started 20 games), Varney was playing regularly towards the end of the season and S.Hunt played occasionally (started 10). The rest of the released players didn't play 25 games between them.

And counting players like Wyatt Chaplow and Suwonmi could make it even more players leaving with Wood, Sammon, Nouble, Bajner, McQueen, Williams, St.Ledger... Along with some other released youngsters like Galvin and Willbye.

There are 44 players listed in the squad here. When counting, I make it 22 who are still with the club. Adding Pitman, Fraser and Maitland-Niles that's 25. And Yorwerth should go in the same category as some of the other young players with numbers to make it 27.

Not really all that understaffed I think with a lot of time left before the season starts.

On paper looks ok but reports from his time with West Brom and Birmingham suggest he's got an attitude problem, is a poor trainer and likes to be allowed to do his own thing. That and the woeful lack of goals for an alleged creative midfielder make this a no from me and I'm sure Mick would have his reservations! Not sure we need a creative player in any case - just need someone to set Bish and McGoldrick free (with more energy and drive than Skuse).

What I have noticed over the past couple of years is that the majority of players we have signed have been signed within about a day of being linked. The silver fox keeps his transfers close to his chest until the very last minute. So I reckon if he hasnt signed by the end of the day it won't happen. We'll see..... I could be totally and utterly wrong, which is more likely!

This guy had a very good season last year. Stand out in his whole division; ok admittedly not at top standard but he can improve. WBA must have seen something in him before. Well worth an offer. Rangers haven't much cash to rival any sensible bit from us, and if he fancies another go down south....

Just the sort of player we should be willing and about to spend bits of the Mings money on.

"He was named the SPFL Championship Player of the Year." I know its only Scotland, but does't that mean he must be pretty good?
