Town Confirm Maitland-Niles Loan Thursday, 2nd Jul 2015 15:33
Town have confirmed the signing of Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a season-long loan.
Maitland-Niles joined his new team-mates for training for the first time this morning having completed the formalities of his switch and will be in the squad which travels to the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare for a training camp next week, ahead of Town's first pre-season friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park a week on Saturday.
“It’s been a long wait to get the deal done but I’m here now and I’m ready to work,” he told Ipswich Player HD.
“Arsenal want me to get a bit of experience under my belt and I’m happy to do that. I’m still young and there’s plenty of time for me to develop.
“The Championship is a tough league but one I feel ready to perform in. The lads have really made me feel welcome here, they are wonderful.
“You can tell there’s a good group here and they’ve helped me settle in really well. I’m ready to work hard in pre-season now and hopefully hit the ground running ahead of the new season.”
As with all season-long loans there is no recall provision, however, Town would have the option to end the loan early in January if they wished to do so.
Goodmayes-born Maitland-Niles, who is primarily a right-sided winger but can play all across the midfield, joined Arsenal’s academy aged nine and broke into their U21 side during 2013/14, signing a pro deal in October 2014.
The England U17 and U18 international made his senior debut as a sub in last season’s Champions League game at Galatasaray and also made first team appearances from the bench against Newcastle in the Premier League and Hull City in the FA Cup.
Maitland-Niles hit the headlines earlier in the year when his mother, Jule Niles, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting two people at Arsenal’s training ground, amongst them Arsene Wenger's negotiator Dick Law. She was later released without charge.

When was the last time a champions league side sent us a player on loan ? Please give him a decent chance Mick so that we might get a few more in the future.
Welcome. Although surprised we have signed two loanees so far, I'm at least pleased it's season long deals. I know nothing about him, but hopefully he does well for us.
Need to add permanent players to the first team squad now. We are a bit light at the back.
Agree RE the cautionary tale of JET and his pedigree but I suspect with Mick a bit more research in attitude has been done. Fergie famously had Chris Sutton followed because it was rumored that he liked the Colombian power powder, I should say that the PI found no evidence of that what so ever. None the less Utd went a different way. Wouldn't put that past Mick.
Looks like it's Him and Connoly to compete for the right side. Mick does like to have someone to step in. When Cresswell went he knew Mings was in place and indeed Mings with Parr so I hope that shows a belief that even if this doesn't work out Connoly is ready.
Getting there. Would like to see a proper RB in then for me it's really about depth.
That's my guess for a starting 11 if the season started tomorrow.
I would lobby for Hyam or Skuse to make way for did
None the less our bench would hold
Gerks, Didz, Pitman, Tabb (like it or not), Connoly, Bishop, Clarke (poss be yerwerth - Evens Mick is calling him L'orieal before the season is out- ) Varney to come plus any youngsters coming through.
Possibly then Ambrose and Hunt plus maybe one or two others we might hope to see arrive.
Doesn't look to shabby to me right now. Not many OAPS either.
It is good that we are in a position of trying to work out who to leave out of a starting team rather than who to put in. I would want Didz,Bishop and Pitman in any team of mine at the moment but finding places for them based on BlueandTrue's post above would be difficult except I do not think Skuse and Hyam should play together.Based on the second half of last season,Skuse would just about be the first name on my teamsheet. I imagine that there will be further additions to the squad and hopefully none of the first choice players leaving so picking a starting eleven could get harder still.
Now blue_movies what were you saying? A couple of days ago ...Oh yes : dugout Perhaps best to keep quiet sometimes and wait and see. he hasn't signed yet
Never mind - you're in today's doubters room with bluefest.
Green Army, it is my predicted team, the one I think Mick would pick if the season stared tomorrow . As I say I would lobby for Didz in for Hyam too. Bishop for regular game time of the bench and in rotataion. Totally agree, want to see both feature regularly not season
BlueandTrueSince82 - you make a lot of good points, but it should be said that any Town fan unhappy about Tabb being around the squad needs to have a look at themselves. He's going to play a vital elder statesmen role in the squad this season and he'll still win 99% of the headers he goes for.
Like patrickswell has already said, Tabb is a vital member of the squad. He should be the first name down on MM's team sheet as he really is a different class.
Our defence needs sorting out in this transfer window. Smith got exhausted last season and became prone to errors. Like others have said here, a left-back and a right-back are now huge priorities. We need Chambers to be able to play at centre-back occasionally which will give Smith that rest. I have no idea how good Clarke is but is he ready for first-team football?
Midfield wise, if we sign S.Hunt, N.Hunt and Ambrose we will have good cover. There are already youngsters pushing Tabb, Bishop etc for a first team place (McDonnell, Connolly, Henshall, Paterson etc). With the additions from Bournemouth and Arsenal we really don't need to strengthen here. Could even see Dozzell make a sub appearance this season- he seems good enough.
Strikers wise: murphy, Sears, MCgoldrick, hunt and Pittman would be an excellent combination. We've even got cover in this area in case of injuries. Apparently, McDonnell operates well as a striker too.
Do need a replacement for Paddy Kenny, and need to bring in a fair few replacements to our u21 set up.
NoCanariesAllowed - best TWTD post eva! Considering that a Miranda has just been transferred there must be a player called Daphne somewhere in South America
Looking good. We seem to have more flair and attacking options than last season. Rely on Mick to lick it all into shape with his no-nonsense approach. I don't think there will be many more additions (unless Murph leaves). Mick may be stubborn enough to persist with Chambo at RB, but like most other posters, I hope this is not the case. Generally, though, the vibes are positive.
i think that he is going to [or should i say gunner]be trying ,he will be wanting to show Arsenal what he is capable of,looking forward to seeing him play .Good move i think Big Mick!
