Coke and Touré Join Town
Saturday, 1st Aug 2015 17:53

Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that trialists Giles Coke and Larsen Touré are joining the club. The duo both came on as subs during today’s 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Coke, 29, previously played in the friendlies at Peterborough and Colchester, while 31-year-old Guinean international Touré, a former team-mate of Kevin Bru's at Levski Sofia, was briefly involved against the U’s.

“We’re signing Cokey and Larsen Touré, they’re done,” McCarthy revealed following the match.

Speaking to Ipswich Player, he added: “I knew about Giles anyway from him playing against us over the years and I’ve always liked him as a player. He’s come in and done really well.

“Larsen impressed me as soon as he walked through the door and trained with us. He’s definitely got something and I’m delighted to get both of them on board.”

The Blues boss says he's pleased to add the duo plus Danish left-back Jonas Knudsen to the Town ranks: “Absolutely delighted, my 14-man squad is up to 17 rapidly, 19 with keepers, I think.”

McCarthy wouldn’t be drawn on progress with any of his other targets with TWTD understanding that the Blues were outbid by Leeds for Brentford winger Stuart Dallas, while veteran Leyton Orient winger Jobi McAnuff has also been linked.

“You know I wouldn’t talk to you about any other players, but you keep asking, so fair play to you, it’s your job,” he said.

“I wouldn’t tell you what we’re doing with players, all the ones we’ve got in this week have been a bit of a surprise to everybody except Cokey because he was already here.”

The addition of Knudsen means Matt Clarke’s loan to Portsmouth can be formalised: “It’ll go through on Monday. It was always going to go through but I didn’t want to be left completely bare.”

Clarke played the full 90 minutes for Portsmouth as they drew 0-0 at Gillingham this afternoon, his third friendly for Pompey.

Too many to remember! Scotland £500k, Bowyer's wages, Bullard's wages, MacAuley £2 mill ( good signing ) Norris upwards of £1.5 mill, crikey we've thrown a good £15 - £20 mill down the pan in transfer fees alone.

Two more freebies. Out bid on main transfer target. Not great. However, I wish the new signings well. Just feels like it's second best after missing out on main targets. Not much spent on fees again.

Jas0999: there is no actual merit in a large transfer fee. Would you rather Knudsen cost us 4 million just to make you excited about his arrival?

I think we will do well this season...

Jonas Kundsen (Looks Very good) Worth every penny we spent on him

Giles Coke (Back up/Bench/Cup/Lower league positions teams)

Larsen Toure (Looks ok but need to see more of him before can judge on what he is like)

Brett Pitt man (Looks like he will score a few this season)

Ryan Frazer (Looks like he will cause trouble on the wings)

Ainsley maitland-nilesm (Looks very good can't wait to see him play more)

We need new RB (Josh Emmanuel not quite ready to play every game this season so need to ease him in) one more CM a GK (If can find one better than what we have already) thats about it for now.

Mick done a great job but no Jay Tabb at LB & Keep chambers to CB Only.

Lets get the season started can't wait

Fat boy Tim, Yes!! So glad to read that comment! Too many people are consumed by money and fees and it's so boring! Its like Some wants to keep up with the jones. My house is bigger than your house, blah blah. I'm excited about Knudsen, and I also think it's great he sounds like a bargain!

Think many people are missing the point on here. Yes you don't need to spend money to get good players. We have wasted a lot of money over the years, but this wasn't MM doing.

MM has been giving practically nothing to spend on transfer fees, however the players he has brought in have on the whole been fantastic. Imagine who he will sign with a bit of money.

Main concern is we need a proven top quality keeper, Bournemouth last year with Boruc we need someone of that calibre which will cost money. Johnny williams type player/johnny willaims in midfield and a new RB and we will be just about there.

Now is the time to invest, frees will only take us so far. You only have to look at who got promoted last year to realise that.

Dunk is a centre half so we're not really in the market for him I would think, certainly not at the £5m price tag quoted. I see Jordan McGhee only played the last 3 minutes for Hearts today - maybe he was being minded ahead of a transfer!

Seems MM and ME have decided to aim for mid-table again this year.

So we now have Tabb, Coke and Cole.... Is this a squad or a soft drinks cabinet? Plent of fizz in our squad.

Toure has only played 160 pro games for very ordinary teams and he is 31.

If he is any good, MM really is a genius!

"Oh Jonas he plays like Gareth Bale, oh Jonas he plays like Gareth Bale, he's made his home in our East Suffolk Gloaming, oh Jonas he plays like Gareth Bale" to the tune of Jonah he lived in a Whale. I'll get my coat.
