Hyam Could Go Out on Loan
Friday, 20th Nov 2015 14:21

Town boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Luke Hyam could go out on a month’s loan to continue his comeback after almost 11 months out with a knee injury. The Blues boss is ruling out a similar short-term switch for Teddy Bishop, although would be willing to allow youngsters such as Josh Emmanuel to go out for spells, but has no plans to add to his own squad before next week’s loan deadline.

Hyam is in action for Town’s U21s at QPR this afternoon and McCarthy says he could go out for a month elsewhere with his opportunities likely to be limited at Portman Road as he gets back to the top of his game having been out injured since January.

“He might go out on loan for a month if he gets fit,” McCarthy said. “Bearing in mind we’ve got Skusey, we’ve got Kevin Bru, we’ve got Dougie, we’ve got Ainsley Maitland-Niles, we’ve got Tabby and we’ve got Giles Coke that can play in the middle of midfield.

“If he comes back having had all the time out and gets fit and then he doesn’t play and he travels with us and he doesn’t play, travels with us and doesn’t play again, he loses all the benefit of all his rehab.

“If we can put him out for a month, which I think we probably can and he’s happy to do it, then that’s what will happen.”

He added: “I’ve no doubt about his fitness, I’m certain he’ll be fine today but he needs games and if he gets five or six games he’ll be a lot better for it.”

Regarding Teddy Bishop, he says he has no plans to send him out on loan with the 19-year-old continuing his comeback from shin splints and hamstring problems.

“He’s not quite ready,” the Town manager continued. “[A loan] was never a consideration with Teddy, he’s not been out as long as Luke has. Luke broke down a couple of times as well with his injury.

“We’ll wait and see when Teddy comes back but we’ve got a number of midfield players, maybe one or two with suspensions looming if they’re not careful so we’ll have to keep one or two of them around.”

On-trial Ebbsfleet winger Shilow Tracey played for Town’s U21s against Brentford on Monday but has suffered a knock and McCarthy says he plans to take another look at the 17-year-old.

“He’s been injured but hopefully we’ll look after him, he’ll come back and we’ll look at him again,” he said.

Grays striker Dumebi Dumaka was on trial the previous week but the Town boss has no plans to take his interest any further: “Nothing’s going to happen there.”

Football League clubs have until next Thursday to use the ‘emergency loan’ provision but McCarthy has no plans to add anyone to his squad before that deadline.

“It’ll probably be the case that somebody will go out rather than somebody coming in,” he said.”I don’t think there’s anybody available that I can get that is better than what I’ve got.

“We’re not going to Championship clubs looking for something better than what we’ve got.

“And from the Premier League, we’ve got a really top one in Ainsley but I don’t know how many of those are available. I’m happy with what I’ve got and I’ve got no wish to go out looking for players at all.”

McCarthy says the likes of Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock are available in order to gain experience if clubs want them.

“I’ve already put that out about Josh and anybody else that’s playing [in the U21s],” he added. “There’ll be scouts watching them at QPR today, they’re watching them every week, and if somebody comes in I’ll talk to them.”

Get him fit in the under 21's Instead or playing for us, he is a very essential player for us and runs his socks off all day. Hyam or Douglas? easy choice for me

First reaction was 'what the ACTUAL?' but then the more you think of it, the more you think, OK: could be good for him to go down to some tin-pot club down the road and serve as motivation to get back in and break your butt for the team. He was already doing that anyway before these injuries, mind...

A loan to Colchester would be perfect in my opinion , he needs games , they need a bit of steel !! Great young player with fire in his belly

Waffleman- Under 21's is not the way to get a player fit unfortunately, needs to get the bumps and bruises you get from playing league football to get back to his best! a month on loan in League one will be perfect imo.
Chiddley- as for Douglas, he hadnt been out injured for the best part of a year had he, so was easier for him to get match fitness by playing for us.........
some people on here are so clueless!!!

I was hoping Teddy would be back this week, oh well.. looking forward to seeing him back in a Town shirt. Hope Hyam can get back to fitness, if he cannot shift Douglas or Coke from the squad you might as well hang up your boots.

”I don't think there's anybody available that I can get that is better than what I've got."

There is no right back available anywhere in the world on loan ? Because a natural right back would be an improvement on what we've got MM .

“If he comes back having had all the time out and gets fit and then he doesn't play "

Why would Hyam not play if he is fit MM ? Why would he be behind Skuse,Douglas ,Tabb, Coke as a tackling midfielder alongside the likes of Bru or AMN as he has more energy and bite than all of them

would there be this "love in" for Hyam if he wasn't a home grown player ??

runs around a lot but very limited.

" Hyam or Douglas? easy choice for me "

Likewise, a fully fit Douglas all day long in a midfield 3.

Perhaps Hyam in a 2, but how good is he? Lets not be blinkered.

I like hyam and I hope he gets back playing for us but I wouldn't be too confident of it happening. Wouldn't be surprised if he left next summer either

I think a loan move would benefit him. Needs competitive games and we do have similar players. That said, looking at the list of central midfielders, Bru aside there isn't much in way of creatvity and few goals. Still think a quality player in that role is still the missing piece.

Can't anybody remember when Hyam was fit and playing regularly in the team? Many supporters wanted him dropped. He's just ok, he's not brilliant!

Good news, a month or two away on loan at a League One club would be a good move for him after such a long time out. Lots of options in central midfield when Bishop is back too!

I see the international break has given the nob heads on this site a chance to recuperate.
Hyam has clearly become a great player overnight simply by not playing.
I suspect the same people who laud him now are the ones who criticised him for every sideways or backwards pass last season.
Hyam is good back-up, much better than Coke, but he won't be a key element in any promotion-winning team.
And I'd have Douglas over him any day. The last few performances are proof of that.
But what do I know?
In fact, what does McCarthy know.
I mean, he hasn't won a game for two weeks so the pressure must be mounting...

Why would anyone be against a loan move for Hyam to get match fit ?

Jimmy86 added 19:03 - Nov 20
The thing about Hyam is playing him in his best position, which undoubtedly is as a defensive, holding midfielder, sitting in front of the back 4. He has always played better doing the simple things and dirty jobs well. In today's era, there is nothing wrong with having a "makelele" type player, but he has come unstuck when played in a more attacking role. He's not good enough on the ball to be creative, or a box to box midfielder. A loan would Def suit, he will find it hard to get in the team now, with the other options we have. Hard working, but limited player, if you take the "1 of our own" blinkers off

Is nowhere near good enough at this level and a loan move to Colchester would inevitably lead to a permanent deal. Just about adequate when trying to stop opponents play but very limited with the ball and division 1 standard at best.

BigHibbs, have you watched Colchester at all this season? With Garvan and Moncur fit, Hyam would not be in their starting line-up.

Chepstowblue... I agree, with one minor amendment: we get Moncur in return!
