Knudsen Aiming to Follow Predecessors into Premier League
Friday, 11th Dec 2015 06:00

Town left-back Jonas Knudsen wants to follow in the footsteps of predecessors Tyrone Mings and Aaron Cresswell and become a Premier League player.

Mings’s £8 million summer move to Bournemouth got off to the worst-possible start when he was carried off early in his Premier League debut for the newly-promoted Cherries and he has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Cresswell, meanwhile, continues to impress with West Ham following his move to Upton Park in July 2014, winning the Hammer of the Year accolade at the end of his first season and being touted for England honours, as well as a big-money move to Manchester City, in many quarters.

Knudsen, 23, said: “I think it is true what they say about the English Premier League being the best in the world. When I was in Denmark I watched it whenever I could, every Saturday and Sunday, and my family and friends were also keen to watch. I also remember watching some English Championship games on television.

“I saw Aaron Cresswell play for Ipswich and thought he was very good, then I saw more of him when he moved to West Ham.

“I have followed West Ham for two or three years now because Winston Reid has the same agent as me, so I have followed Cresswell’s career with a lot of interest.

“Players always know who is playing in their position at other teams so when I heard about Ipswich wanting to sign me I thought of Cresswell.

“It is hard for me to believe I am now playing in the same position with the same team that he was with. He has done very well at West Ham and I would like to follow him into the Premier League one day.

“I saw a lot of English football on television and the Chelsea full-backs — Ivanovic and Cole — used to always impress me.

“But I also liked Aaron Cresswell, and I have seen a lot of his games for West Ham. I think he is fantastic and I would like to be as good as him one day.”

We've done incredibly well to make good money out of Cresswell and Mings, who are well below PL, and indeed Championship, standard : we surely couldn't manage it a 3rd time by selling on Knudsen, could we?

@Daleyitfc
You mean apart from Creswell playing week-in week-out for West Ham, a PL team that play in the PL, he isn't a PL player? I suppose he wasn't voted their player of the year either?...and below Championship standard? What planet are you actually living on? You're welcome to your opinion, but perhaps base it on something....not just ignorance.
Anyway, good to see Jonas has the ambition to progress, hopefully with Town. Best of luck I say!
