Maitland-Niles and Parr Back and Knudsen Should Be Fit Despite Knock
Thursday, 31st Dec 2015 14:31

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Jonny Parr are both available again after injury ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley, while Jonas Knudsen is one of a number of players to have picked up knocks at Brighton on Tuesday but is expected to be OK for the trip to Turf Moor.

“He’s fine, he’s trained today,” manager Mick McCarthy said regarding Maitland-Niles, who missed the 1-0 win at the Amex Stadium.

“He had a bruised foot and he couldn’t get his boot on. He’s all right, he trained today, he’ll be in the squad, he’s travelling tomorrow.”

Also back is Jonny Parr after a calf problem: “Jonny Parr has trained and he will travel with us, which is good news because Jonas Knudsen has got a bang on his knee and was feeling a bit rough with it yesterday, actually, it was very stiff.

“But it’s a lot better today so I think he’s a bit more confident today. I think Christophe Berra took a bang on his calf but he’ll be OK.

“A few bumps and bruises, Murph got a kick on his foot but he’s all right. Jonny Douglas got a knock on his knee and has been having treatment but he should be OK. Nothing untoward. Jonas was the one we were concerned about but he’s feeling far more optimistic about it.”

David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop remain sidelined with hamstring problems, while Larsen Touré is still out with a groin problem.

Mick would be "bonkers" to change the side that started vs Brighton.

I would like to see Douglas drop out as he looked slow against Brighton I think he needs a rest.
We can't defend a high line against burnley as we did against Brighton, every time almost stockdale kicked out they were running onto it and putting pressure on us. You could call it good kicking from stockdale but if we defended deeper when he had it we may have had an easier night.

No mention of Bru despite him coming off injured against Brighton.

Let's get 3 points at Burnley and begin to put to bed the theory we can't beat the teams above us Brighton was an excellent start on Tuesday night!
Wishing you all and your families a very happy new year!! C.O.Y.B

Parr much better than Knudsen. Bru better than Douglas. Suspect it will be unchanged though. Agree that if we defend high as we did v Brighton we're in trouble. Burnley far stronger up front than Brighton and will take advantage of our poor full backs and keeper who stays on his line !!

Tough tough game but 5 away wins in a row must boost confidence. We're not good enough defensively to go there and shut up shop so go for it boys and see what happens.

COYB !!!

Happy New Year all

Bossman. Bru didn't come off injured take it from me. I would have an unchanged team personally but not sure if Bru will start.

Prebns007 if you were at Brighton you wouldn't be criticising our fullbacks - Knudsen and Chambo played very well and Chambo made several vital clearances from the central defence area. Very useful to have a full back who is so dominant in the air. That was a really stirring performance all round by the whole team - I'm not surprised we have knocks and bruises! Douglas too had a very good game and so nearly scored from close in. He's not the tastes but covers loads of ground.

Re above knocks;think Mick will be asking for trouble if he puts in players that are not 100%.

I am thinking specifically of Jonas who seems the worst one,and with Jonny Parr fit why risk it.

Not sure that both Douglas and Bru should start as both seemed knackered;Kevin at half time and Jonathan at the end;especially as we now have Luke Hyam back, and AMN has had a rest.

However how can we be critical of Mick after recent displays, for as I have said before;its the League Table that counts, and doesn't lie!

I think Knudsen is improving as a player.

Rfretwell yes was there of course. Both our fullbacks are well below championship standard and everyone knows it. They were both better at Brighton but not one team in top 6 would swap full backs with us !!! If you're being 100% honest, given the question "which part of the team needs improvement " I reckon 75% plus would say Goalkeeper or fullbacks. It's easy to say they had good game at Brighton but over the season both have been a liability. Look at out goals against column and see how many of those came from wide areas. A big percentage !!!
