Team GB Assist Bishop With Recovery
Tuesday, 9th Feb 2016 16:16

Town midfielder Teddy Bishop is expected to return to training in early March having utilised the expertise of Team GB as he has sought to shake off the injuries which have prevented him from making a senior appearance this season.

The 19-year-old initially broke down in pre-season and has subsequently made a number of abortive attempts to get back to action.

“Bish’s pre-season work was curtailed due to bilateral medial tibial stress syndrome, commonly known as shin splints,” Town physio Matt Byard explained to the club site.

“Subsequent adjustments to his conditioning programme then contributed to a muscular strain to his right hamstring.

“Bish did some further strength and conditioning work and was able to complete his individualised pre-season programme during September.

“He returned to full training and played for the U21s in October but then suffered a tear to his right hamstring tendon, which is completely different to a hamstring muscle injury and can be a significant problem.

“He was seen in London by the British Olympic doctor, Noel Pollock. He has had a course of injections to his lower back and hamstring muscles and has continued a lower limb strength and endurance programme.

“Recently he attended Team GB’s Intensive Rehab Unit at Bisham Abbey as part of his recovery.

“He is making good progress and we anticipate his rehabilitation to continue outside within the next two weeks and are scheduling a return to training in early March.”

Town’s other long-term injury absentee David McGoldrick is also making progress having been out with a hamstring problem since mid-December.

Great news about both Bish and Didzy. Hopefully both will be fit and raring to go by the end of March.

Just what we need for the final month of the season and for our push into the play off positions.

When fully fit these two players would get in most Championship sides, so their absence has been huge.

It's still a big ask for him to get back in the team this season. He'll need the equivalent of a full pre-season to get fit, and that means without any other strains or minor injuries. At best I reckon we're looking mid to end April. Fingers crossed, because we are in dire need of midfield creativity.

Why do I worry that he may never make it back to the top level ?

An insurance pay-out coming on this lad I feel : followed by a move into coaching and a few games for someone like Needham Market or Whitton United.

Remember when he was gonna miss pre season matches due to shin splints....never thought it would be this long without him! Hope he reaches his potential and the injuries don't hinder him too much.

So the return of Teddy isn't particularly imminent if we're talking about getting back to training by early March, after reading the feature the other day about McG and Bish coming back a few and myself included wondered if it was more PR spin as the news broke after a non-existent transfer window. I wonder how long it will be before we do see both of them feature in the first 11 - April maybe?

Not a chance of seeing Bishop this season he won't be anywhere close to match fit. I just hope the medics get his problem sorted out for his sake and ours - more or less the same problem did for Kieron Dyer a few years ago - the main difference being he was allowed to keep playing in pain and what should have been a long England career never happened.
As for McG not sure he will show up again for Town and IMO is too lazy when he does - should have ripped Leicesters hand off when they made that stupid offer.

Although club wont spend in the transfer market, for some unfathomable reason,Mr Evans does not stint on giving players best medical treatment.
