Hyam and Douglas Back, Malarczyk Out
Monday, 22nd Feb 2016 13:51

Midfielders Luke Hyam and Jonathan Douglas are available after injury and suspension respectively ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Hull City but central defender Piotr Malarczyk misses out having had a kidney stone.

Regarding Hyam, who has missed the last two games with a calf injury, McCarthy said: “He’s fine, he’s trained the back end of last week and this week now, so he’s fully fit and raring to go.”

The Town boss had no new injuries to report: “They’re all OK. We’ve got Dougie back from suspension, who I thought was excellent prior to that and a little bit unlucky with his three-match ban.

“To have him and Luke back has added a a bit to our midfield and options for tomorrow night.”

With Hyam and Douglas both available again, the Town manager says he’s not currently looking for loan additions.

“That’s on the back burner really,” he added. “We’ve got two good players coming back and with the ones we already have, we’re OK.”

Polish defender Malarczyk has been left out of the 18 for recent games and McCarthy says he won’t be involved against the Tigers.

“Peter’s had a kidney stone,” he said. “Painful I believe, I hope I never find out. He had the procedure done on Wednesday, I’ve spoken to him this morning and he’s fine now. But he’s not trained and isn’t ready for the squad but the stone has gone."

The Town boss says David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop continue to make progress after their hamstring injuries but isn’t putting a date on their returns.

“Of course, but as to exactly when they’ll be back I don’t know, I’ve no idea,” he said.

“They ought to be out on the grass [soon], but that’s only just starting their running. I wouldn’t out a time on it, but I’m hopeful before the end of the season, definitely.”

Ryan Fraser (hamstring), Cole Skuse (toe) and Giles Coke (knee) also remain sidelined, while keeper Dean Gerken is fit after his shoulder injury and seems likely to be on the bench with Bartosz Bialkowski having been in outstanding form in recent games.

Blueboy - a bit odd to question whether we've forgotten how to go for a win, then in the very next sentence mention the 16 wins on the trot record. Made me laugh though so thanks.

Jeez. I've got no appetite for this game vs Hull. I feel so bloody deflated by the goings on at ITFC and lack of players coming in when a blind man can see we are woefully weak in the squad now. As for Bishop and Mcgoldrick coming back......who gives a shyte now anyway. it's all too little too late IMO.

Hull are going to stuff us or it will be backs to the wall for 90 mins with constant hoofing up field to relieve the pressure on the back four. Midfield? laughable we haven't bloody got one.

ArnieM: Regarding the very agreeable blatantly obvious lack of new players coming in (or just ANY kind of 'reinforcements' really! ..... Oh wait! Our recently also 'hoof-inclined' youngsters in the U21 are not exactly setting their U21 2nd league on fire, are they??? And besides even if they were we all know The Dinosaur don't have much faith, if any!, in playing the 'green' ones!) our Master Mick just above basically reiterated what he has soooo feverishly proclaimed many times already this calendar year: " “We've got two GOOD players coming back and with the ones we already have, we're OK.”.

Repeat: "We are OK"???!!!

Hmmm .... Really??? Which "movie'"are you watching Mick??? :-)

So in other words: I beg to differ .... if I may, please (and without being labelled a "moaner")? :-) .... Meaning if you ask SOME of the more stoic "In The Dinosaur We Trust" Brigade, you kind of get the message that Mick's word -- and Mick's way -- is pretty much LAW around here on TWTD. Period!!! .... But then of course -- and like most of all the other "moaners" in our fanbase -- I'm basically also just sort of an outright "heretic" in their eyes ain't I? LOL Especially as I so purposefully have let it be publicly known that I for pretty long growing increasingly more and more "ANTI-Mick" by the week! :-)

Would I like us to upset Hull??? Well of course I do!!! As contrary to "popular" belief around here, it's still quite possible to be "ANTI-Mick" while still rooting for The Boyz .... also EVEN if most of Mick's favorite XI as players -- square-pegs-in-round-holes and all -- are soooooooo 1-dimensional and/or UNcreative. So let's HOOF them "Tigers" back to the Stone Age, as only Ipswich Town can, shall we??? COYB!!!

Just hope we do break the tactics up against Hull. They seem to be really well equipped to deal with hoofball so if we decide to do our usual "launch it up the pitch as hard as possible and see if you can get snow on the ball" tactics we may well come undone.

It would be nice to see some traditional long-ball. Balls knocked into channels and strikers with some inkling of where the ball is going to be. Or alternatively some nice passing football in the centre, building up to a shot on goal.

But no. We will most likely launch our missiles from the left back and right back positions and try and win the ball back in midfield when it is on its return.

Sorry, but a win is a MUST for this game to get back into realistic contention for 6th spot.

I think we need a service provider in midfield. But we musn't forget to pay him.
