Regarding Sam Ford being on trial with West Ham, I can't understand what benefit there would be for the club in letting an evidently promising young player leave for another team. I would understand if it was Ford's wishes to leave the club, but if not why do it? Can anyone explain the reasoning to me?

The club doesn't have much choice, its up to Sam, if he wants to explore the opportunity its better to let him because

A, if we stand in his way and he gets a cobb on about it that will effect other players and more to the point Sam and his performances

B, Due to his age WHU can snap him up when his contact runs out, I suspect given his age that is either a scholarship or a short youth deal that is reviewed every season, every 2 tops, so they wouldn't have to wait too long. This would mean the fee being decided by tribunal which invariably is not as much as the club would command if it were a standard transfer.

If an agreement can be reached (ideally with lots of juicy ad ons should the boy make it) it is financially better for the club, whos to say if that lad will or will not make it.

If the boy wants to stay then even better, I'm sure the club would be delighted but standing in the way of a step up to WHU's development team would be fool hardy.

Lets hope Freddies Sears reminds him of what being a hammers youth can be like, the days of Cole, Ferdinand, Defoe etc coming through their ranks are gone

Prem club the obvious attraction right now

I saw Sam Ford's dad in Ladbrooks before the Leeds game and he was quite concerned that the club hadn't offered him anything as yet. He obviously wants Sam to make the grade at Town, so don't quite know why the club are letting him go on trial at wet spam
