Murphy Wins Cap as Ireland Win
Friday, 25th Mar 2016 22:11

Striker Daryl Murphy came on as a sub and won his 20th full international cap - before later being subbed himself - as the Republic of Ireland beat Switzerland 1-0 in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

The 33-year-old took over from the injured Kevin Doyle in the 27th minute and was then replaced by Norwich midfielder Wes Hoolahan with 11 minutes remaining as Ireland sought to hold on to the lead gained via a third minute Ciaran Clark header.

Murphy came close to his first international goal shortly before coming off when he curled a shot just wide.

Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s side continue their preparations for Euro 2016 when they face Slovakia in another home friendly on Tuesday.

I'm surprised he still gets picked. He's obviously s great player for us, but still never scored an international goal. Must be eating at his confidence a bit!

If he is injured, can we please start Sears up top where he should really be playing!
