Judge: Messages of Support Touching
Monday, 11th Apr 2016 12:00

Brentford and Ireland winger Alan Judge has tweeted his thanks for the messages of support he has received from throughout football since suffering a broken leg during the early stages of the Bees’ 3-1 victory over the Blues at Portman Road on Saturday.

"First of all I would like to thank everyone for their messages of support from the Bees fans, players I have an have not played with and from fans of other clubs around the country,” wrote the 27-year-old, who will now miss out on a place in the Irish squad at Euro 2016.

"It has been very touching to me and my family. This is football and things like this happen; that's life.

"I will be back stronger and much better than I have been before. I will achieve my dream one way or the other. Nothing will hold me back.”

Meanwhile, his Bees’ team-mate Alan McCormack says that as a result of Judge’s injury, the visitors’ dressing room was subdued after the match, despite having achieved the club’s first ever win away against Town.

“You don't want to see anyone injured. You want to rewind the clock and go back. People are going to get injured in tackles or take a broken nose for the team,” he told GetWestLondon.

“It's what you do to get three points. I'm sure Judgey is delighted with the result but devastated with the news.

“The dressing room after was a very quiet atmosphere considering we've won 3-1 away at Ipswich.

“We all feel for Judgey. Football can be a cruel game. We wish him all the best. Hopefully we'll see him on the pitch soon.”

McCormack admits he and his team-mates were less than happy with Luke Hyam for the tackle which led to Judge’s injury and weren’t disappointed to see him dismissed after he picked up a second yellow card for retaliating following a Ryan Woods tackle just before half-time.

He added: “I wasn't too impressed with it. I had a behind view so I haven't fully seen it. I think it was the force of the challenge and the way he has come in.

“You know what's happening and you could hear a lot of things happening in it. It was a bad one.”

“Everyone was very annoyed with the player. I wouldn't want to say justice was done with him being sent off as you don't want players sent off but our players could have got into trouble as they wanted to look after Judgey and make sure that it's not forgotten.

“He'll hold his hands up to say he didn't mean to. I'm not saying revenge is sweet but it might be for the best he wasn't on the pitch too much longer.”

I wish him a very speedy recovery.

I also hope Hyam learns from this.

Hyam should have been sent off there and then. Think the referee realised this afterwards and didn't give us anything in the first half. This ultimately resulted in our defeat

Our fans are pathetic - I despair at the idiots on the new comments, I really do.. Never a red card tackle. Brentford players have no class either.

The ref was weak in not addressing the blatanet retribution by Brentford players on Hyam. Yes Hyam's tackle was a very poor one , but does that give the right for Brentfiord players to tackle at knee height with the INTENTION of casuing serious injury ?

Brentford players should take a long hard look at themselevs for THEIR disgraceful behaviour. and the powers that be should be allowed to issue a straight red to the Brentford players that lunged in on Hyam at knee level.

And where were the Ipswich boys looking after Hyam.. It was an unfortunate outcome to a tackle granted.. And I wish Judge all the best..But the only person to get into the faces of The Brentwood players for them picking on Hyam was Varney who put one on Woods for getting Hyam sent off...Where was our Captain.. We lost because we allowed Brentwood to bully us because of a tackle.. Gutless

I understand Judge wasn't even wearing shin pads. Very silly decision. BOTH players were stretching for the ball. It was an unfortunate accident and Hyam is not to blame. Agree with you Arnie M.

I would question why Judge chose not to wear shin pads though. A decision I bet he regrets now. It may not have prevented the break/s but it might have.

Gutted for judge, horrible injury. But McCormack and Woods are a nasty bit of work, didn't see the tackle but then goes after trying to get hyam injured and sent off. No class

Hope Judge gets well soon. McCormack should even be allowed on the hallowed turf of Portman Rd let alone comment on others bad tackles as he has a reputation himself! Surprised he's playing championship football with his skill set .

McCommack — we all know that this type of response goes on in football but you don't need to say it. Not exactly role model behaviour. I can only assume the comments were made in the heat of moment. Understandable but not acceptable.

Hyam — is not a dirty player but will need to learn fast from this experience. It's shame that he wasn't substituted directly after — said it at the time and Macca that's one you got wrong in my opinion

Cook — you got away with it son!

Not wearing shin pads!? Surely that can't be true? There's some 5 a side places that insist on that! Madness.

Oi grubbyoik, leave Brentwood out of this - they're innocent ! They've got their own problems without being embroiled in this ! 😀

The suggestion that Judge was not wearing shin pads is simply untrue and ridiculous - shin pads HAVE to be worn as part of a players equipment.
Also whoever it was that stated above that it was an unfortunate accident as both players were 'stretching' for the ball - have you not seen the incident!?
It was simply an uncontrolled challenge by a poor player. Hyams leading leg completely missed the player and ball - it was his trailing leg that took out Judge. Any player that throws themselves into a challenge with enough force to break another individuals leg should not be on a football field. MM was singing Judges praises before the game, I'm sure he instructed Hyam to 'get Judgey early on'. Going out with the intentions to hurt another individual would be classed as assault in any other way of life - but I guess it's okay be this is an 'entertainment sport'. Just shows how out of touch MM is with the game. Professional players, who are paid £thousand's a week, should be able to beat opponents with sheer talent and skill - not by deliberately hurting them, and putting them out of the game.
People rave about how good Hyam is and that he is a 'ball winning' midfielder? A tackle is usually his 2nd touch because his first touch is so poor. He's an average footballer at best and would not warrant a starting place in any other top 10 team in the Championship. He is only still here because he's a local lad and 'one of our own', which irritated the hell out of me because he's actually a Man Utd fan. So many fickle fans that follow MM and his outdated hoofball and accept it. Times up MM.

I'm an avid reader of this forum & find it entertaining & informative at times but I've never posted.

Hyams horror lunge that isn't worthy of being called a tackle was an absolute disgrace to this football club. Made worse by being in full view of the dugouts where our arrogant, stubborn manager could see it clearly. It was obvious Hyam had been told to get stuck in to Judge & that is exactly what he did. There was no need what so ever to go in with the amount of force he did. I'm sure he regrets it but it has wrecked Judges career and robbed him of euro tournament he had worked hard for.

Totally agree with Brentford players for trying to put one on Hyam. Ref should have denied them opportunity with straight red & having escaped that McCarthy should have pulled him out for his own safety.

Ipswich fans need a reality check on what our club is about coz what we are watching at the moment isn't it.

Disgraceful challenge by a very average footballer making a living out if being fit, strong & devoid of talent backed by a manager who has lost the plot,

Full of gratitude for the early seasons Mick but your comments and approach to matches are not the Ipswich way. GO NOW & GIVE US OUR PRIDE BACK.

New young manager in and play flowing attacking football. This myth about footballing sides not getting out of the championship is rubbish. Bournemouth did it without too much trouble !!

This is the most boring time in clubs history & my 3 season tickets cancelled for next season. Utter rubbish on display time & again. How any Ipswich manager can end up with Skuse, Douglas & Hyam in same team says it all about McCarthy no class.

Evans cheque book out or you clear off too you get no more money from me till this debacle of a football team shows signs of how they intend to try & win a game with entrrtaining football & McCarthy is not the man to do it.

I thought that the wearing of shinpads was now compulsory.

Mr Evans - have to agree with you. I have never really rated Hyam and have had some passionate arguments with others about his ability. Those who support him must IMO do so because he is a local lad but I cant believe they do so due to his footballing ability. In all honesty I think he's an average player at best but is a hot head who will be a constant liability.

Hope Alan Judge soon gets back playing and suffers no lasting effects of this awful injury, I am sure Luke Hyam never set out to cause this and must feel dreadful that it has happened. Without getting embroiled In the blame culture that others seem to enjoy, it must be said that we lack that little bit of quality to get into the top 6. Brentford had that on Saturday in Lasse Vibe, especially in the 2nd half. Why can't we sign someone like him? The answer is simple he cost £1million, all we sign are cast offs, no-hopers and those almost at OAP age who cost nothing. Next year's season ticket renewal is consigned to the bin!!

Hyam's an idiot. Anyone thinking Judge wasn't wearing shinpads is an idiot. The majority of current Town players, management and board members are idiots.

DoseOfReality ............ spot on post - agree with every word.

Anyone condoning Hyam for what he did - is definitely NOT a true ITFC Supporter.

The decent alienate themselves from such - like it, or NOT you lot - it's TRUE.

Maybe a 'new' breed has crept into the Club - which can only destroy our once highly respected, and proud, Club further over time.

Where has our Footballing Pedigree gone ? - or the respect for decent 'long term' fans ?

So you agree with DoseOfReality that it was OK to kick Hyam off the pitch?

Kind of invalidates the rest of your pompous post don't you think?
