Liverpool "Leading Dozzell Chase"
Tuesday, 12th Apr 2016 09:32

Liverpool are now reported to be leading the chase for Town youngster Andre Dozzell.

According to the Daily Mirror the Reds have already held talks with the Blues regarding the 16-year-old, who is also interesting Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United.

The Mirror reports that the Blues would receive compensation of around £1.5 million if the England U17 international were to move on.

Academy scholar Dozzell, the son of former Town and Spurs midfielder Jason, has agreed a two-year professional deal with the Blues which will be formalised when he turns 17 on May 2nd.

Speaking to TWTD after links with Tottenham and Arsenal last month, father Jason said he believes Portman Road is the best place for his son, who featured for the U21s against Sheffield Wednesday last night, at this stage of his career, comments he reiterated on Saturday's Life's a Pitch on Radio Suffolk.

“Experience tells me that paper talk is paper talk,” he told TWTD. “There’s a big difference between someone having interest and putting a cheque on the table. As far as I’m concerned it’s nothing.”

He added: “Ipswich is the best place for him. He’s obviously been on the bench, he’s close, the manager likes him. His pathway at the moment is Ipswich Town.

“If he goes to a big club his pathway would be blocked, there will be a lot more players, a lot more better players, I would imagine.

“All you can ask for is to be close to the first team. I thought it would happen next year but it’s happening this year.

“I’m happy with the way he’s progressing, I’m happy with how they’re looking after him as a parent and that’s all you can ask for really."

I believe Ipswich Town fans, have to make some kind of a protest at a home game!!! Questions have to be answered surely? I do not attend to many games these days, the value for money is terrible and I could not imagine the thought of having a season ticket? It would depress me so much😢 You guys deserve better !!

This really isn't the fault of our staff. The EPPP was established to facilitate channeling of the brightest talent into the top English clubs, presumably to improve the national product. Any player that distinguishes himself at such a young age is very likely to get poached, for paltry compensation, before the club is even able to get his signature on a professional contract.

Oh dear from above looks like Evans and McCarthy have begun talks(2nd para)More money for the owners back pocket.
Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Liverpool and loaned back.
Hope he listens to his dad though

Who is this clown, there is not t proven manager out there that could do better than McCarthy? Try Nigel Pearson, Tim Sherwood or the man we should have had before Keane, Glen Hoddle. I will wager none of them would play hoofball even with limited resources

Wayway I wouldn't waste your breath tbh. We had this debate with bohslegend on Saturday on the chatroom & came up with about 20 alternatives ....... none of which he thought were a credible alternative to his beloved Mick 😊
Mick supporters on here conveniently side step the fact that most of those who question Mick don't agree with his style of play, tactics and ethos that we question ..... not "hating" the club ...... but its easier to ignore that !!!
Totally agree & will repeat ad nasuem - BUDGET DOES NOT DETERMINE STYLE !!!!!

We need about 6 million so lets start with Mick. The compensation deal for him will amount to about 1 million which is a great start. Throw in Coke,Toure, Digby,Stewart, Douglas and Tabb and that might make it 2. Then only 4 million to find. NO NEED TO SELL OUR MOST PROMISING YOUTH PLAYERS.

Don't always believe what you read in the papers Folks,I doubt very much he will leave.!! The only possibility is he might sign for a bigger club then stay at Town for a few seasons, but I doubt that also.

Crikey of course Liverpool and co are going to have a look - doesn't mean it will amount to anything.

Does seem to be quite a bit of hype around the lad - anyone who goes to the U21s regularly, would you say he's ready?

Budget certainly does determine the style you have to adopt to get a result.

Pity everything has to be MM's fault.

If in doubt, don't hoof it out, watch it end up in your net.

Isn't it time someone blamed the weather on MM?

I have heard the sum of £3million mentioned as compensation!

Cheshire_blue - how does budget determine the style of play? We played football to a half decent standard at the start of the season and were picking up results. We're playing the worst football I've ever witnessed (anywhere - including non league/amateurs) and we're not getting results....Pompey has a lower budget than us (think their team cost £250k and will certainly be on at least half the wage bill if not less) and they play lovely, exciting and attacking football and played us off the park twice....

So tell me again how budget affects the style of play?

Also, why do we need a manager with a proven track record? Did Eddie Howe, Gary Monk or Slaven Billic even our own George Burley have track records? I know Roy Keane and Paul Jewell certainly did..

Phillo - In answer to your question "What has gone wrong with our great club !!!!!"? - simple, in one word - Evans! He is the man who appointed Keane, Paul Jewell, McCarthy and added to them the two most uninformed clowns as MD's!

£3 million n compensation is what is being put about, I would have thought West Ham would be more likely. Imagine Andre and Reece Oxford together in the same team in a few years time captained by Cressy!!!

Sorry cheshireblue I simply don't think that's true - budget does not determine style at all ....... just enables you to buy better players to play to the style you chose. Not all lower league sides play goofball ...... it keeps getting repeated but did you not see Portsmouth at our place in the FA Cup this year ??
Billable - not sure I totally agree with you re Evans either ..... although I grant you he appoints these guys so has "ultimate" responsibility in a way BUT he like all of us probably has high hopes when he interviews these guys for the job & they promise him the earth ....... not necessarily his fault when it doesn't work out that way. I will blame him if he persists with Mick any longer as he can surely see the damage & turmoil Kicks approach is now bringing to the club.
Don't forget all those people who bleat about how Mick saved us (& he did ....... but that was 3 years ago now !!!) ...... Evans saved our club from bankruptcy & has stabilised us financially ....... surely that's as good if not better !

Phillo, When 'Marcus Evans' interviews a manager their one and only concern is nothing to do with football and everything to do with how much the decision will make the PLC. They and their advisers admit they know nothing about football which is why we get Clegg and Milne as CEO, appointed solely to save and make the PLC money
