Town Yet to Make Digby Approach
Friday, 17th Jun 2016 09:10

Barnsley chief executive Ben Mansford says Town are yet to make contact with the newly-promoted South Yorkshire club regarding the recruitment of loanee Paul Digby on a permanent basis.

The Blues are expected sign the 21-year-old during the close season with manager Mick McCarthy having confirmed that he wants to keep the former England U19 and U20 international at Portman Road and with the player saying he is keen to stay.

When Digby, who made one Championship start and three sub appearances for the Blues in addition to two FA Cup games, joined Town on loan in January the deal agreed included the proposed terms of a free transfer this summer if he impressed.

However, Mansford told the Barnsley Chronicle that the Blues are yet to make contact.

“I believe Paul deemed his spell at Ipswich to be successful and I was suspecting that he would have looked to have moved to Ipswich permanently but that hasn’t been facilitated by now,” he said.

“If it hasn’t been facilitated by 27th June then Paul will come back and be part of our squad because he is contracted until the end of next season.

“I am surprised it hasn’t happened to Ipswich so far. I’m not quite to the bottom of the reasons why.

“If he is here with us for pre-season then we hope that experience at Ipswich would be positive. He enjoyed his time at Ipswich.”

While with Town Digby, who had played most of his football in midfield, operated as a right-sided centre-half. Despite Town’s recruitment of another right-sided central defender, Adam Webster from Portsmouth, we understand the Blues remain interested in adding Digby to their squad.

You've all known me on this site for many, many years. And usually I get excited and positive about a new season ahead. Just not feeling this one. I do feel we are going to lose some of the old guard and I just hope we don't replace them last minute with freebies and loans.

I can see why McCarthy would use digby, He is very flexible, now the question is ... does he cost a fee now that barnsley were promoted or realised their is no potential in a player who couldnt get on the barnsley team?

He had a trial for Man Utd....
Then again, Veseli had a trial and was signed for a year by Utd so not a good indicator. From what I have seen he is a very ok centre half. Barnsley fans weren't particularly glowing about him.

Do people seriously think that everyone at the club is sat around scratching their balls like Jochacm Low? The thing with transfers is more than one party is involved. Town can't talk to other clubs players unless bids are accepted. Town can't sign anyone on a free until they have weighed up all their oprions, often players are waiting on a particular club to come in if thir agent is chatting them up.

I love how some ppl just blame the club for everything, I don't see too many other clubs signing up players left right and centre at this stage, my recent memory is that Mick and the Club have delivered our 3 most consistent and highest finishes since Jim missed out on the players and despite that every year I see the same bleating. Only on here out people pound to whinge so much, if some of you cared on real life the way you do on here I suggest several things would happen.

1. The wife/husband/life partner would leave because they are sick of it (if through that whinging you have found one of course)

2. Your negative attitude in and around the work place would result in termination of contract for genrreally being a negative git whos constantly slagging everyone around you off.

3. Partly ad a result of the above but mostly due to your general outlook you would give up and end it all. Clearly life is not worth living because everything is so crap.

Happy people live longer.

I suspect Barnsley haven't heard anything because Mick doesn't need to rush him in. Simple. Mick can (and should) work to his own timetable. Why do you want him to work to Barnsleys?

Getting the players you want requires time, work and a little luck. Sadly it ain't just a case of click your fingers and you have Ronaldo knocking at the door. Some of you are confusing FIFA with real life.

The budget is budget. The turnover (2014/15 was 18th lowest in the divison, just to give you an indication of just little there is to work with) is the turnover, and it's as simple as that.

If you want mega money signings go support Chelsea or Man City, they have them all the time. Of couse this still doesn't appear to gaurntee any success does it, especially with long ball Leicester winning titles. Pump it up to Vardy? Good idea he'll probably score.

Get to the quack and ask him for a valium before it all seems to late and you find yourself in the car with beachy head in the satnav, if you chose to live it life can be pretty cool. Or don't, lock yourself in your bedroom writing I hate Mick out over and over, because that's healthy right.

Jesus.

I accept defeat on that one. But to me he did more "running around after the ball" than he did "running England around" ....

I DID NOT SEE THE FIRST GAME and was only commenting (in passing) on the 18 mins he played. TO be fair - It DID remind me of the home game v AFC Bournemouth on Easter Monday the other year (1-1 bore draw) - the whole team was in our own half for most of the game and Jonny Williams was the only one chasing the ball -which he did constantly.

I REALLY LIKE the player and wasn't knocking him at all (SORRY if I was mis-understood) and yes I'd love to have him at PR

But from the 18 mins I saw, he did nothing to suggest that his game has developed at all since we last had him.

Others have said that he definitely looked a different player in the first wales game - but I can't comment as I didn't see it - and I DO accept that 18 minutes is not that long to judge.

Looking forward to him being MoM when they thrash Russia - and to him being a Town player again soon!
