Town Draw Stevenage at Home Again in First Round of EFL Cup
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2016 13:09

Town have drawn Stevenage at home in the first round of the EFL Cup, the competition previously known as the League Cup.

The sides met at the same stage of the competition last year, also at Portman Road, when the Blues ran out 2-1 winners with Josh Yorwerth and Jay Tabb netting for Town, and Boro replying via a Christophe Berra own goal.

Prior to that the teams also faced one another in the first round at Broadhall Way in August 2013 when the home side won 2-0 with Filipe Morais (pen) and Jordan Burrow on target.

Those two ties are the only occasions on which the teams have played one another competitively.

The Blues were one of the seeded clubs in the draw, which was regionalised on a north/south basis with the ties taking place in the week commencing August 8th.

Might be a boring draw, but are we really wanting to be drawn against a better opposition? It's a chance to get a cup run going..

EFL Cup? Must be a new trophy to play for, never heard of it.

I recall a league cup
And FA cup
Rumbalows cup
Milk Cup
Coca Cola cup

EFL cup though, sounds like something Charlotte Honey Badgers should be playing the Fort Worth Wellingtons for

Can someone explain how Cambridge end up un the north section, yet Coventry are put in the South section?!?

This competition is a complete and utter waste of time as we always play a team of reserves. I would treat this with the same level of disrespect that MM shows it and us fans...save your money!
It is such a shame as I would love a decent cup run and it is annoying when we rest an entire team and then lost at home to Rotherham or some other lowly team in the next league match!

spot on marco007. I shall be staying at home rather than watch the reserves. Both this and the FA Cup have become Mickey Mouse competitions and will remain so until teams are punished for fielding under strength teams.

@philwhelansdegree:

I'd have thought it's because Cambridge are one of the 17 most Northerly of the non-seeded teams whereas Coventry are not one of the 17 most Northerly of the seeded teams.

Kids are on holiday for this evening game so why don't we play with a strong team and charge a tenner for adults and kids a quid to fill the ground and get a decent atmosphere
