Hermann: It’s Like a Never-Ending Dream! Tuesday, 28th Jun 2016 19:49 Blues legend Hermann Hreidarsson says Iceland’s Euro 2016 campaign is like “a never-ending dream”, his nation having beaten England 2-1 in Nice last night to progress to the quarter-finals. Speaking to the Ipswich Town Supporters Club of Norway at Oslo Airport this morning, Hreidarsson, 41, said: “It feels like the dream is never-ending, it’s a never-ending dream, we don’t have to wake up! It’s class.” The former left-back or central defender, who won 89 Iceland caps, scoring five goals, says beating England was particularly special: “It was a dream to qualify from the group stages, but it was beyond our wildest dreams to be able to compete against England in a major tournament, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. And, wow, was it an opportunity and we nailed it!” Hreidarsson, now managing Reykjavik-based side Fylkir, says Iceland are capable of claiming another famous scalp when they face hosts France at the Stade de France on Sunday. “Every Icelander believes anything is achievable and the confidence is growing, the team is playing better and better. I can’t see France stopping us!” You can hear the full interview, in which Hermann also talks about his time with the Blues, here.
