U18s Win 5-0 at Southwold
Friday, 15th Jul 2016 22:16 by James Ager

Town's U18 side got their pre-season preparations under way on Friday evening with a comfortable 5-0 win at Southwold Town in the annual pre-season friendly on the Common.

The first goal came after 10 minutes when Ben Morris (pictured) played his first half strike partner, a trialist, through on goal and he netted with a simple finish.

Morris looked sharp and the England U17 international frontman regularly tested Southwold keeper Aaron Foulger throughout the opening period.

Foulger had done well to keep Morris's efforts and a Kieron Cathline header out but he was finally beaten again a minute before the break.

Morris claimed his second assist for another trialist, Spaniard Diego Centeno, who played the first half on the left wing, and he slotted home from close range.

There was still time for Morris to rattle Foulger's crossbar before the whistle blew for half-time.

Town fielded an entirely different team after the interval and sub Jack Lankester forced Foulger into another fine save five minutes after the restart.

Just before the hour mark Tristan Nydam netted a third with a clever finish which saw him dink the ball over the advancing Foulger.

Three minutes later Irish first-year scholar Corrie Ndaba produced some sublime footwork in the area to beat two defenders before firing a shot into the far corner of the net.

On 78 Lankester did add his name to the scoresheet when he slid in to convert schoolboy Dylan Crowe's low cross from the right.

Morris stood out during his time on the pitch and on another day he could have had at least two or three goals to his name, but overall it was a dominant display from Town's youngsters against a spirited Southwold side.

U18s: Hayes (Wright 46), Salaudeen (Woolfenden 46), Cole (Webber 46), Downes (Murrell 21 (Ndaba 46)), Fowler (Marshall 46), Cathline (C Smith 46), Meldrum (Cahill 46 (Crowe 72)), McGavin (Nydam 46), Trialist (Daniels 46), Morris (Wilton 46), Centeno (Lankester 46).

Wish we could sign A Trialist. He always seems to be a great player but we never get to sign him. Two goals and looked really sharp.

Ben Morris looks on form, good news

Any confirmed news on the trialists? I heard it was Kane Smith (a right back from Hitchin Town) and Suni Olsen (a left winger with plenty of International experienice). Can anyone else confirm this?

Neither of them. Mick said Smith, who is 19 anyway, isn't in his plans. The other lad you mention is 35!
