Town Targeting Tottenham's Ward
Monday, 1st Aug 2016 11:40

Tottenham midfielder Grant Ward is the player the Blues are expecting to sign today, TWTD understands.

Speaking this morning manager Mick McCarthy said he hopes to make a signing today, which looks set to be Ward, while we understand the Blues are also closing in on a second further addition.

Lewisham-born Ward, 21, joined the Spurs academy as a 10-year-old but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club. He spent time on loan with the Chicago Fire in 2014 and Coventry City a year later.

Last season the right-sided winger or central midfielder made 35 starts and eight sub appearances while on loan with Rotherham in the Championship, scoring twice.

The move seems likely to be a loan with Ward having signed a new two-year deal in February.

Got young player of the year and goal of the year at Rotherham last season. Cautiously optimistic is what I feel.

Interesting know nothing about him so looked him up on Wikipedia he won Rotherhams young player of the year last year and Goal of the year. Could turn out to be a hidden gem. Is this a perm or loan deal????

12th man: what was you expecting?

Good signing if true IMO

Goals? Not many. Better than what we have who play right midfield?
The two wingers look much better bets tbh.

How can you say underwealmed, Tottenham academy is one of the best in England, 21 years old, Rotherham young player of the year... Who are you expecting? We just missed out on Ronaldo because contract talks broke down?

Sounds like a good potential player, right age, right direction, let's hope him and Kaikai as he sounds mustard

12th Man - give the lad a chance! I'm sure you knew anything about him without a look on Wikipedia.

Good to see we are close to a couple of additions!

Never seen him play so can't comment too much. A little underwhelmed but hopefully proves me wrong.

Just had a little read up about him and I'm not underwhelmed anymore. Apparently he won Rotherham's young player of the year and was pivotal to them staying up last season. Sounds a decent player!

Assume you've seen him play 12th man.

Please tell me his negative attributes that leave you underwelmed?
Does he struggle to beat a man?
I assume he isn't developing?
What foot is he?
Does he track back?
What's he like at set pieces?
Does he possess poor stamina?

If you think you're underwhelmed 12th man, imagine how we all feel every time we read one of your posts or comments thinking 'this guy has to say something worthwhile soon by law of averages alone'.

Hope we make a couple of permanent additions, but this could be a promising addition to the squad as he has experience at this level. Will need to add to his goals scored column, but we desperately need reinforcements. Hopefully three or four more to follow.

I suppose these sorts of deals make sense for the player and for us - if he's a big success and helps us to promotion then we'll want (and be able to afford) to make any loan deal permanent.

I seem to remember him having a good game against us at Portman road recently if I'm not mistaken and looked to be pretty dangerous.

This lad and kaikai and we could be all set!!

Positive signing.
Young, and coming off the back of a very successful season at this level.

Was expecting some 32 year old random with no Championship experience.

According to Tw@ter it's a permanent deal?

Ward or/and Shayon Harrison from Tottenham would be decent.....

Don't know much about him to be honest, but played all season in the Championship last season, so knows how tough it is and hopefully that'll help him this season. Would like to think, if it is a loan, it is all season with bo recall clause, which i doubt it will have anyway.

Now KaiKai, Lamah and a right back and things have suddenly turned round in a week!
