Williams Set to Return
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 08:55

Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is set to return to the Blues for a fourth spell.

The South London Press revealed the Blues' renewed interest in the 22-year-old this morning and TWTD understands that Wales international Williams is to rejoin on a season-long loan.

Talks are still ongoing but the deal is likely to go through with Town having hoped the signing might have been confirmed last night.

Williams initially joined the Blues in February 2014 and became a big fans' favourite during the remainder of that season.

The Pembury-born midfielder, who is contracted to Palace until 2018, returned in the September but had his spell curtailed by a thigh injury suffered in the Watford game in the November.

He came back to Town for a third spell late in the season but made only two sub appearances before suffering a recurrence of the problem in an U21s game.

Williams, who played for Wales at the European Championships in the summer, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and with the MK Dons last season.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season and so is unlikely to be fit for a few weeks.

Town are looking to add strength in depth ahead of this evening's 11pm deadline with emergency loans not available to EFL clubs this season.

Williams is expected to be one of two or three signings today with the Blues also looking to add to their strikers with Daryl Murphy having left for Newcastle over the weekend. We understand bids have been lodged and discussions are likely to continue throughout the day.

Think this would be a brilliant signing. He can make a difference in games. A great talent. And I my opinion not injury prone as such, not like Mcgoldrick, but rather targeted by the opposition as he's actually table to run at players and beat a man. Slow midfielders and defenders dont like that. Played alongside players like ward, bishop, grant and Lawrence who can all do similar would cause the opposition lots of problems and he wouldn't be such a target. When he's been with us before he's been the only player capable of doing this as Mcgoldrick was out during his first spell and some of his second, whilst Bishop was out all of his second.

Exact type of player we need to take control of a game , between him Dids and Bishop they could be the difference between promotion and average mid table .
Creative playmakers will not play 40 plus games a season as they get targeted by opposition kickers as we have done in the past to players Judge/Hyam ?
Any loss of form to key players and we are normally stuffed the more match winners in your squad the more chance of winning games , get it done MM excellent news

Anther loan. Injury prone. Already injured. Not great. Will we actually spend a fee or is it same old same old?

Yes please! Permanent signing and this is starting to get back to the Ipswich sides of old. Experience combined with stamina and youth with pace and a yard of pace or agility.
Here's hoping...(plus a striker, of course!)

I was talking about Williams to my Palace supporting mate last night and he said he was injured at the minute.

I like the lad but worry this will hamper the progress of some our younger players, we should be building a team of Ipswich players, journeymen are fine for a season but there is no future in it!!
Splash the cash to get what we need Mick.

Hopefully we will get to see him play most of the season without injury. Looked a better player in the Euros, so fingers crossed this will go through. We just need a big front man to replace Murph now.
Don't ever remember being this excited about Transfer Deadline day at Portman Road before. COYB

Great news! Fits in well here. Although injury prone fitness could be managed here. Could be better timing now in terms of getting permanent deal.

A surfeit of midfielders.

Rather underwhelmed by it really, yes a good player and did well at the euros can't really see him playing a big part due to injury probelms.

On the flipside, fearful of a last minute bid for Bart !

Loan or permanent I'm a happy man! We've all got to remember there's no emergency loan window and were used to picking one or 2 loans up in that period so we're just doing that now so we have enough bodies to get us through. When fit he adds a huge amount of class to our side and could he the difference for us. Very pleased

One question where does this leave Dozzell's developement.

Christ alive, yes he's injury prone but we have him all season.

We have other players who can play, we can integrate Jonny with 10-15 minutes to start with this time as opposed to having to chuck him straight in.

Of course we need someone of this ability.

Get it done. Masterstroke.

"Wonder what his first injury will be....and when"
He's already injured. I wonder if he'll have changed his game (detrimentally) to avoid them. Played well when given pitch time during the Euros though, so hopefully not.

Dont understand how some think this is a bad move. Good move when fit would easily be the best central midfielder we have.

I'm highly doubting this will be permanent as I think we are looking for a permanent replacement for Murphy. Would love to see Williams back though, and right now it's looking like we have some footballers at the club finally, albeit most being on loan.

Another sick note----sorry, great player but not for long enough.

Are we actually going to spend any MONEY-------or have we been led up the garden path yet again------------or will Sky TV be at Portman Road tonight!?
