Dozzell and Morris Win Caps as England U18s Thrash Israel
Monday, 5th Sep 2016 22:59

Town duo Andre Dozzell and Ben Morris started and won their second England U18s caps as their side defeated Israel 5-1 at Morecambe’s Globe Arena to win this week’s North-West-based three-team mini-tournament.

Previously, midfielder Dozzell and striker Morris, both 17, came on as subs as the Young Lions beat Italy 2-1 in their opening game last Thursday.

In tonight's match skipper Morgan Feeney of Everton opened the scoring before Sheffield Wednesday’s George Hirst headed home a Morris cross.

Hirst, the son of former Owl David, added the third from the spot, Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson made it 4-0, Ofek Nadir pulled one back for the Israelis before Tottenham’s Jaden Brown, who had missed an early penalty, completed the scoring.

Meanwhile, new Blues loan signing Tom Lawrence was an unused sub as Wales beat Moldova 4-0 in their opening World Cup qualifier at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Elsewhere, former Town striker Daryl Murphy netted his first international goal in his 24th game for the Republic of Ireland after coming on as a sub to secure a 2-2 draw in Serbia in their first qualifier in the same group.

The 33-year-old, who joined Newcastle for £3 million last week, came on as a 76th minute sub and nodded home the equaliser on 81.

On Tuesday, Blues keeper Michael Crowe could win his first Wales U21s cap when Geraint Williams’s side take on Luxembourg in a Euro 2017 qualifier in Bangor.

Well done Andre and Ben. And at least Tom Lawrence didn't get injured. Glad to see Murph getting back on the score sheet [ as long as it isn't against us I don't mind ]. Roll on Friday

I think it's great to see our players of all ages playing for their countries at the highest level for their age. Hopefully we won't have too long to wait before we see Ipswich Town players back in the full England squad.

And I'm pleased for Murphy too. A real pro. Once a Blue always a Blue.
