McGoldrick "More Positive and Brighter" as He Closes in On Return
Thursday, 15th Sep 2016 06:00

Manager Mick McCarthy says striker David McGoldrick is feeling “more positive and brighter” as he closes in on his return to action, having felt down after suffering a freak ankle injury in the EFL Cup defeat to Stevenage early last month.

The 28-year-old has faced more than his fair share of injury woe in recent seasons and suffered the latest problem when he landed awkwardly on his ankle and damaged ligaments.

Initially there were fears that the Republic of Ireland international might require surgery but the frontman has made good progress without having to go under the surgeon’s knife.

McCarthy says McGoldrick, who has spent much of his recuperation back home in Nottingham, was deeply frustrated but is now looking forward to his return.

“You can see that he’s got over that, I spoke to him [earlier in the week],” McCarthy said. “For the first couple of weeks he was just mortified, really down.

“But you get that first five weeks out of the way and he’s on the up now, he’s got to the halfway point in his 10 to 12 weeks.

“He’s now looking at his end date rather than thinking that 10 or 12 weeks seems such a long time away. I just thought he was a lot more positive and brighter.”

ITFC94 ......... completely off topic but totally agree with you about Skuse , doesn't want ball ever , doesn't put in tackles , doesn't mark players just runs to space which enables him to pick up occasional loose balls but isn't aiding the defence properly and creates nothing going forward and is no goal threat . Whatever MM says about being ready for Premier league name a team with a worse holding midfielder than Skuse ?

It's a great shame but it does seem the McGoldrick is doomed to be a 'nearly man'. Great skills and awareness of the game, but just too fragile...

Probably wisest if we totally discount him ever making another meaningful contribution and then if he does it will be a lovely surprise.

This is such a boring story McGoldrick is always injured and always coming back. He is finished as a long term player for Ipswich Town FC or anyone else. Sadly he is injury prone and we must accept that fact as we should have accepted Leicesters crazy offer a couple of years ago.

In spite of all the negative comments concerning Didzy, I for one cannot wait for him to be fit and back in the team. He,s by far and away the best player on the books.

I'm afraid he will continue to have injury problems. The headline to this story is also very misleading. 'Closes in on return' suggests he will be playing in a couple of weeks, but in reality it's still up to six and then time to get match fit. You are still looking early November at the absolute earliest. Not very close at all.

He could be the best player in the world but, if he's never fit, what use is he to us?

The bottom line is any game we get out of him is a bonus and we cannot afford to build any sort of plans around him!

Novembers a month and half away you prat lool
Must be young if he thinks that November is "not very close at all"

Leahcar88 - I hope you are not referring to me? Calling someone a prat is unacceptable. In footballing terms and as a season lasts around nine months, then a month and a half AT LEAST is a substantial period. It's certainly not 'closing in' on return.

When fit mcgoldrick is by far our best player. I can't wait for him to return from injury as when fit and on form he is a joy to watch. Get well soon! Coyb

Our best player & I agree his injury record throughout his career is poor. I hope this will be in the past after this injury but I doubt it.

I dont agree that his attitude has been poor since the Leicester bid - how would we know he has hardly been fit since then and that is not his fault.

Surely nobody thinks he is deliberately injured..

Penn blue I think you are not far from the truth
His body language on the pitch just appears to be uninterested. More than just a twisted ankle

At the end of the day some should support rather than run the club down

Sound like Norwich fans, never happy

Marky,he has this languid style which appears to infer he doesn't care.

There is no doubt that he would have loved to get a move back to the Midlands, and it shows considering he still lives there.I recall RK insisting that players have their homes near to PR;think PJ altered that because he didn't and stayed with his mate Chris Hutchings I believe in the flats near the river Stour in Dedham and drink at the Marlborough.
Same with MM who lives in Kent I think,on the outskirts of London, from his days at Millwall.

We certainly did Leicester a huge favour, if their bid for McGoldrick was factual, by rejecting it.

This guy is a tremendous player, at his best, and fit - which he never is, or indeed will be.
Could do a tremendous job for us - but never will

Complete waste of the Club's money - far, far, to fragile for today's game (it appears ... !!)
On the face of it anyway.

Forget him, and move on - no future for him here, or elsewhere - unless a complete transformation unexpectedly happens.

Just a thought .... !! ...... he's NOT the kind of player who welcomes being expected to defend too much, in addition to his natural game - can't say I blame him for that, many talented players would feel the same.
I wonder therefore if he REALLY wants to play for a certain person .... ???

I think he genuinely likes the Club, but does he like the Manager and his style / tactics ..... ??

........ talented creative players don't always take too kindly to being expected to work like Suffolk Punch's and run thro' Brick Walls - and many are NOT expected to do so.

A successful team can never be built on ten pit ponies either.

We certainly need him back & with his scoring boots on!!!

First I believe he was fit enough to play end of last season more but to look after himself to make the euros to get himself a move back up north with his family. His heart is not at the club

No supporter should moan about Didzy. If there is one person that is most gutted by all the injuries it's him.

Like anyone that loves football, you just want to play.

Fingers crossed he gets a solid run, he deserves it!

Hope we can get him back fit for the play-offs. Could be useful there.
