Trialist in Action as U23s Beaten at Bolton
Monday, 26th Sep 2016 21:20

Shane McLoughlin was on target but a Town U23s side - featuring trialist right-back Jordan Spence - was beaten 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers this evening.

McLoughlin put the Blues ahead in the 17th minute but Hyuga Tanner equalised from the spot for the home side five minutes before the break and Joseph N’Guessan won it in the 79th minute.

Free agent Spence, 26, was released by the MK Dons in the summer having joined them initially on loan in 2013 from West Ham where he came through the youth ranks.

While with the Hammers the Londoner also had spells on loan at Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Spence, who is 5ft 11in tall, was capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.

U23s: Crowe, Spence, Webber, Woolfenden, Fowler, C Smith, Benyu, McLoughlin, Morris, Patterson, Blanchfield. Subs: Marshall, Hayes, Meldrum, Daniels, Wilton.

Coke was a non contract trialist and the other really really rubbish one - Traore? there might be a reason why these guys do not have a club.

Berra must be close to a suspension - then what? Chambers and Skuse at centre back?

Spence was realised from MK Dons as he was not seen as the future nor wanted to play second fiddle. Would prefer to keep blooding Emmanuel into the team as we all know Chambers will be no. 1.

Interesting though that this is the second RB trailist we've had a look at hope it means MM sees this as a problem area which we all do. For me Berra is the CB who needs to be dropped be interesting to see how Chambers plays on Saturday in his preferred position after all this time.

I saw the same article as Wicklowblue. MK Dons released Spence as they felt he wasn't going to improve as a player and was already playing to his max potential. He also was unlikely to get into their team.

I know little to nothing about Spence but it is a good sign that MM is looking at right backs.

No starter this one, methinks.

Attended the game, Spence looked decent but think that was largely to be expected considering he was the only member of our team who'd played league football. He looked good going forward, strong in the air and was reasonably two footed. Hope we give Emmanuel a run in the side, but given that he's also played centre half I wouldn't be averse to Spence being brought in as short-term defensive cover if Webster's out for a couple of months or more.

Re Alex McQueen, Mick said they weren't pursuing their interest.

I live near MK and have seen Jordan Spence play many times. At MK he started off playing centre-back, and then moved to right-back. He's a good player, tall, athletic, decent pace, comfortable on the ball, and good at getting forward when he plays right-back. I was a bit surprised when MK Dons released him, but George Baldock was doing exceptionally well at right-back and there were other parts of the team that needed addressing, on a limited budget.

Mick certainly knows how to keep Emmanuel on his toes.First he said that Chambers would probably be right back for rest of the season, which fortunately will not be the case due to injuries, and now he has another trialist in that position Jordan Spence;having released Alex McQueen who he also tried in that position recently.

Hope this hasn't done any harm to Josh'confidence, and he plays a blinder, making it difficult for the dinosaur to drop him.
