McCarthy Shocked and Surprised By Football Corruption Revelations
Friday, 30th Sep 2016 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s shocked and surprised by the revelations which have emerged regarding a number of football managers in recent days, adding that he has nothing to fear from the ongoing media exposés.

“I’m shocked they’re coming out because I don’t know anything about them. And I am saddened by them,” McCarthy said.

Regarding his friend Sam Allardyce, who left his job as England manager after just one game and 67 days following a sting by the Daily Telegraph earlier this week, he added: “Very sad, but that’s all I’m going to comment on it. It’s always sad when somebody loses their job.”

Does he believe football has a big problem with the type of allegations currently being levelled at a number of managers? “Not from my perspective, no. Not from where I’m sitting in terms of me personally. I’ve never seen it, I’ve never been offered it, I’ve never come across it.

“But it has because of what’s happened this week and the allegations and revelations that are coming out.

“And what’s really annoying me is that lots of people will be looking inside the game and pointing the finger at all of us. And I don’t like that.”

He says it’s sad that other bosses might be tainted by association: “Of course it is. I’m hoping that’s not the case.

“But I’m not in the least bit worried about it all going off because it won’t be landing on my doorstep, I can assure you.”

Former England skipper Alan Shearer labelled England the "laughing stock of world football” following Allardyce’s departure, but former Ireland boss McCarthy wasn’t keen to get involved in the debate.

“That’s all for them to say, they’ve all got their opinions,” he added. “But you know what they say, opinions are like backsides, they’re not always supposed to be aired in public.”

Yes,
it would be great if McCarthy could be found to have taken a backhander or sold some dodgy tickets then they might get rid of him - apparently Evans and Milne are happy with the 'football entertainment'

Sorry, did I say dodgy tickets - cancel that, wrong club

Not many people in England either 'shocked or surprised', but I don't believe it is MM's style to indulge in the corruption like has been unearthed in the Telegraph. These undercover Reporters already had inside information on the 'iffy' managers before they operated their Stings.

'Sad when somebody loses their job' - c'mon Mick we all know the football industry is a managerial merry go round, he'll be back in another position next year earning big bucks after he's spent his £1M pay-off (god knows why) this winter from the FA for being sacked .
