McCarthy Not Worried About His Job
Tuesday, 18th Oct 2016 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s not worrying about his position as Town manager, despite the 17th-placed Blues having gone five games without a win or a goal.

Asked whether the current run has led to worries regarding his job, McCarthy said: “No, mine’s a fantastic job, I don’t worry about it at all.”

Has he received reassurance from owner Marcus Evans during the current spell? “Marcus, as I’ve said before, is always very, very supportive in what I have done and what I do and I know he believes that I make far more good decisions than bad ones, that’s why we’ve been 14th, ninth, sixth and seventh.

“And we’ve had a fair bit of success in the transfer market as well when you consider that.

“So, I don’t worry about my job. If people start wanting me out of the door there’s nothing I can do about it apart from work on the training ground with the players and try and change that.

“I prefer it when the fans are happy and they want to come to the ground and we don’t have frowns on our faces, we have smiles on our faces and they’re cheering us.

“The only way we’ll do that is by scoring. We’ve got a game on Tuesday night and let’s hope we can start that process.

“I don’t think I’ve suddenly become a bad manager. They might think ‘He’s not the bloke I want here any more’, but there’s not a damn thing I can do about that.”

Might owners at other Championship clubs have pulled the trigger after a similar run of form? “I don’t look around and think like that at all. It’s a different ball game [at some other clubs].

“Go back four years. If the club were in this position four years ago, whose phone did they ring?”

Does McCarthy believe he has changed as a manager during the intervening time?

“Apparently I have. I’ve got lousy now, I’m no good, I can’t do my job,” he ruefully reflected.

You can down mark me all you like (McCarthy lovers) but I said last season when he had an extension to his contract the relationship between him and the owner is just 'to cosy'...and here lies the problem.

I wonder what Mick's salary is, I'm guessing near £1m a season...

All I can say is that ... I have given up my season ticket after 50 years of support.
This is the most boring football I have ever witnessed
All we ask is for the team to be set up to win, if we then get beaten by a better team.....at least we go down fighting!
1000's have also stopped attending & with the prospect of attracting the next generation of fans being quashed by MM does not bode well for the future.
I feel that the current squad could & should be very close to the top of the division, however, not with MM in charge!
Something has to change!

People go on about 14th, 9th, 6th and 7th. But with what budget. A budget to finish much lower than that. Be realistic we are NOT a big club anymore, haven't been for many years. Looking at this division we are lower middle in all aspects, including support. So while yes some if the things he says appear arrogant, which they do, he us correct in other areas.
We aren't a well run club and that is from above, to a large degree his hands are slightly tied, in the terms of budgets. But what always gets forgotten on here is we run at a significant loss every season before transfers. Is he going to say that.....of course not. Would you publicly slag off your boss and moan about a lack of resources??
The last 2 seasons we have been hit with crucial injuries with creative players. I'm in the camp of give it a little longer (not much though). Despite what many put on here defensively we are good FACT. We have either the best or second best defensive record in the division. Now the likes of Williams and Didzy are getting fit along with Ward there is creative potential. If in a few weeks with these fit the play is still dire and results no better then it will be time to act. Then the new manager will have December before the transfer windows opens.

Let's put all this into perspective: When MM came to the club we were in a terrible state, and I'm sure we will all agree on this. His first full season was OK,and the second better, but since then we have gone down hill fast.Money has not been made available by an owner who I think is now little interested in the club.Yes he has managed to bring in a few decent players, and yes we have had a few injuries. We still have players at this club who could and should do a better job,but due to bad management and farcical tactics, diabolical team selections we have now slipped into a state of desperation.MM goes on about the progress of the youth but he does not seem to introduce them into the first team. After Josh had two outstanding games he is demoted to the bench to be replaced by a player playing out of position and struggles for 90 minutes.
The midfield duo of Skuse and Douglas does not work and it shows. We have Bishop,Dozzell,Grant to name a few who could come into the side, but no,MM sticks with the same two.We are playing with almost six defenders,in my opinion ridiculous.

The strikers are only as good as the service they get, which at the moment is zero.We never replaced DM,in my opinion a big loss.I doubt things will never change now and we will just plod on as a mid table team. There now needs to be a very big rethink at the club i.e.; management and playing staff otherwise there are very sad times ahead.

Last season was worse than the season before and this season is worse again how is that progress in anyone's eyes.
Youngsters are taught that there is no chance of getting a game however MM's favourites may be performing and if by chance they do get a game due to injury or suspension they will be dropped as soon as the favourites are back he has done it time and time again .
MM has made us the most boring team in the league playing the ugliest football , opposing managers say it , players say it , commentators and reporters say it and even a growing number of our supporters say it surely even the die hard MM supporters want more for the club than this ?

Now lets be honest with ourselves here for a moment! MM is a multi millionaire! he got paid a million just for keeping us up! its not as though he is gonna not be able to pay the mortgage now is it?
I have to ask myself why he does it at all? all the stress, travelling across the country only to get scathing reports from us fans!
I know what i would be doing with that sort of dosh in the bank, sitting on the beach drinking ice cold beer looking at the works of art get a sun tan!
I would certainly not want to be standing in the rain shouting at a bunch of overpaid disinterested so co called prof
profeshional footballers!

You can all get your knickers in a twist but at the end of the day he's answering questions in an interview in a perfectly reasonable, candid and honest manner.
People accusing him of arrogance seem to be those taking it very personally that he is not playing the team they want. As the current manager of our team he will make selections that he feels are best. That's what he's employed for and that's how it works.

Well our esteemed Manager doesn't lack confidence in himself,he after all got Sunderland and Wolves promoted,;but as I recall they also sacked him.

He also seems very happy with his achievements here, and presumably everything in the garden is rosy as far as MM is concerned;but not with a lot of the fans.

But Mick doesn't give a toss about them anyway,as his utterances in the past has shown.

I've been following a 'thread' on the official Town website recently. There have been a ton of comments pretty much saying the same thing - club heading nowhere, manager lost the plot, owner no ambition etc etc. I was alerted because a significant member of the current first team 'liked' my own contribution. I decided to see if he had done the same with other comments, and he has. I find this interesting. Has McCarthy 'lost' the dressing room? It does seem odd that such a significant player would risk his views being found out, and fed back to the managerial staff? Anyway, back to tonights 'festival of football'! A bore draw at best. Evans out, ad infinitum.

@ bluearmy84 totally agree with your comment about Evans taking the blame he should of never given the job to MM in the first place. In fact Sheepshanks should of never been allowed to worm his way into the club like he did because of that complete inept muppet we are in the mess we see today. Evans purchased ITFC as an advertising exercise that went totally tits up. Now hes stuck with a football club that is almost worthless. We all thought we were hitting the big time when he took over sorry say the name of Ipswich Town has been used and abused. Thanks for nothing Sheepshanks you T@$$er.
