McCarthy Hopeful on Early January Addition
Thursday, 29th Dec 2016 14:11

Town boss Mick McCarthy is hoping to make an addition to his squad early in January but wouldn’t comment on links with Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow.

“Hopefully, yes. I hope so,” McCarthy said when asked if there might be a new signing in time for the Lincoln City or Blackburn Rovers games soon after the transfer window opens.

The Blues were reported to be keen to sign Woodrow on a six-month loan yesterday, but when quizzed McCarthy wouldn’t comment: “I haven’t read it. He’s not my player so I won’t talk about him. That’s unfair.”

Town defender Adam Webster has also been the subject of speculation with Sunderland and Everton among the clubs to have been linked with the centre-half, but McCarthy says he has no plans to cash in on the 21-year-old.

“I wouldn’t look to sell him at all, I’ve no desire to sell him,” he said. “We bought him and I think we nicked him from under the noses from some who dawdled and didn’t do it and we’ve got a really good player, one that I think the team should be built around, not to be taken away.

“He’s a terrific talent and he’s only going to get better. But I’m not surprised [clubs have been linked] because you’ve heard me wax lyrical about him and I guess the one thing I do know about is centre-halves, if nothing else.”

If a Premier League club were to offer a very significant fee for the former Portsmouth man might Town then be tempted? “You’d have to ask [owner] Marcus [Evans] that.”

As previously reported, Pompey are entitled to 20 per cent of the profit the Blues would make on Webster if he were to be sold.

BlueArmy -

Let's go for George Burley until the end
of the season.

He will be a safe pair of hands -

We can then take time to find the right
manager to bring back pride to our club.

McCarthy OUT

Why sign anyone when Giles Coke is on the road to recovery!!!!!!!!!! Lets face it we will only get a Has been, Never been or Never will be type player who will either be injury prone or Under 23 bench warmer! Cynical? Yes, true probably.

Regardless of if you like Mick or not, the players who have been signed with transfer fees have all done well and have made the team stronger. So a new signing shouldn't be annoying you all? Was it his fault we didn't get a replacement for Murph or was it down to ME?

I get that some fans don't like him but he isn't the sole reason we are struggling and if he does end up leaving you would all find this out...

Only interested in permanent additions. Loans would show yet more lack of ambition in my opinion. Even view to a permanent move would be irrelevant because if the player isn't good enough we won't sign them and if they do well, someone else would out bid us.

the football speak of 'build team around' has always made me cringe .. Now we have just used it is disturbing. Holy moly it's a defender aswell... We need serious help

Two critical games coming up, if we lose both of these jeez , full circle with McCarthy at the helm, aresting the slide will become extremely difficult. Even clubs like Rotherham are now scoring goals and picking up points. Big gamble now for Evans as obviously he's backing his man, bloody shame you never backed him at the end of play off season! Anybody who knows football can see McCarthy is waiting to be relieved of duties, he's all out of ideas and without doubt fed up with trying to provide a team capable of pushing for a play off spot! Tough job for anybody coming in but entertaining the fans would be a good place to start!

Re Websters sell on clause. Did we put anything in place to get any payoff if they sell Matt Clarke (think that,s his name) on?

Cauley Woodrow senior stats:

2010 - 2011 (Luton Town) 0 appearances 0 goals
2011 - present (Fulham) 54 appearances 8 goals
2013-2014 (Loan spell at Southend) 19 appearances 2 goals

In reality is he really going to make an impact, players like sears (who MM chooses to play out of position) has been banging them in since his academy days he is clearly a goalscorer yet we look to sign someone who isn't, wasn't and most probably won't be.. What is the point

@LACR

Haha yes, he signed Webster and Ward which is fair enough. Don't forget he gave away our best academy prospect in return for Webster though. He also signed Luke Varney, a player he deemed not good enough last season plus Lawrence / Williams loans and the players linked to us with future loans are what I mean by short sighted business.

Re: Dear Gavin, You still have time to buy a ticket for this Friday's match against BRISTOL CITY at Portman Road.

So I rarely post on here but I got the usual "do you want to buy tickets e-mail" and funnily enough no I don't due to the club completely ignoring the fans wishes! I think my following reply covers all aspects of why:

I will if you can promise me Mick still won't be in charge for the game.

He continues to play Chambers at right back for some reason only he knows, subsequently we get attacked down the left in every single game to the point I feel sorry for Luke as it's not his fault and he actually cares about the club.

Douglas? I can't even waste time commenting on him.

Sears is not a left winger!!!!! He played two consecutive games as a striker recently and scored in both so what did Mick do? Back to left wing of course and has he scored again.....

So Mick out. Emmanuel at right back (who's actually a right back). Douglas making Bovril in one of the bars for fans and Sears where he's effective upfront and I'll be purchasing tickets yes thankyou!

What successful manager ever built a team round a centre half?

Sparkerino added 18:08 - Dec 29
Please please please please PLEASE can we have a new manager. I'm not one of the ones who comes on here shouting the odds. But I have never disliked watching our team as much as I do now, never despaired as much as I do now. And NOTHING will change until the manager is changed. Why can the owner not see this?
