McCarthy Tightlipped But Rotherham Say No Town Bid for Ward
Monday, 2nd Jan 2017 18:22

Boss Mick McCarthy wouldn’t comment on the Blues’ interest in either Danny Ward or Cauley Woodrow following the 2-1 defeat at QPR, but Rotherham caretaker manager Paul Warne said that the Millers have not received a bid from Town for Ward following their 3-0 loss at Leeds.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield following their game at Elland Road, Warne said: “I know categorically, unless someone’s got a better connection to this club and the chief executive and chairman than me, there’s been no connection with Ipswich at all.

“I know that the manager likes him because I spoke to him and who wouldn’t like Wardy?

“But I also know that no bid has put in at all [from Ipswich]. There has been one from a club, I’m not going to tell you which club and we turned it down, but it wasn’t Ipswich.”

He added: “If there was a good offer for Wardy I still don’t think we’d accept it, the chairman doesn’t want me to sell anyone, and why would I sell my best striker? But in the same way everyone’s got a value, everyone’s got a price.

Quizzed on his interest in Ward, who is out of contract at the end of the season, McCarthy remained tightlipped: “I wouldn’t tell you if there was.”

Asked about loan target Cauley Woodrow, he was similarly taciturn: “Plays for Fulham.”

Questioned further on whether the 22-year-old might be playing somewhere else soon, he added: “They want him to go out on loan, so probably, yes.”

On reports that Wolves are keen on skipper Luke Chambers, he said: “I’ve not heard anything about that.”

Is Chambers someone he wouldn’t want to lose? “I don’t want to lose anybody, to be honest. I haven’t got that many players and can be shipping out.”

Asked whether he is hopeful of having someone signed before the Lincoln match, he said: “We’ll see.”

At the match yesterday, and from what I saw we played attacking football but it we are not the same since Murph has gone..
Also, bitterly disappointed with bringing Douglas on, me for one would of thought Sears would of been a far better option.
They talk about the rub of the green, well we certainly are not getting at the mo.. (may be it could be said for the last 14 years..??), just the way we set ourselves up these days. Every team we face know how to play through us, and who to go through. Chambers for one is not on the same page as the rest of the back three, you could see that from the way he warmed up - not involved with the others..
Pitman should not of started for me, looked knackered and 5 yards short throughout. Telling tale for me was when he was at AFCB Howe always played him at around 60mins mark - & I think for one this is right for us. It worked for us last season, as well.
On a plus, Lawrence had a very good game as did Josh, Myles, Webster and Ward..

Phyllo,I too was at the game and I agree with you 100%.We the loyal fans are at our tether now.The big question now is "where do the club go from here". Your guess is as good as mine. There I rest my case.

For those of you who WEREN'T at the match yesterday, the fans were buzzing when the team was announced. And behold they soon got on the front foot with our new wing-backs having loads of space and playing their part in some exciting play. As has been said Pitman seemed well off the pace and caused little impact but Skuse was higher up the pitch and getting involved. To go in one down wasn't justice but we had high hopes for 2nd half.
However we somehow knew it wouldn't last with Ward coming on for the excellent Josh. Getting back on level terms was great but game looked like it could go either way. But the sight of Douglas replacing Bru was staggering (i mean he wasn't even on bench ar Wigan!). Yes the fans gave their reaction to MM and as was to prove we gave QPR too much room with Douglas making little impact whereas Dozzy or Freddie might have proved vital. Sadly MM was again playing for a draw and of course we lost.
The fans gave plenty of support esp to McG Tom and Bru and were right to turn on MM at the end. It was a game we should've won and we knew it!!

So the signing of ward's appears to be a load of bull. The only likely signing will be an extended contact for Douglas. Has anyone found his stats for the season i.e. passes

...... what player worth his salt would want to come here to be wasted, and ruined in the process.... ???

Forget it people - no need to get excited - once again.

I find it difficult to comprehend why, when you're as secure in your job as MM is, that you don't play a more adventurous brand of football

What are the chances of ME or MM swallowing their pride and admitting they've got it wrong in transfer policy and tactics? What are the chances that they'll dig deep and bring in quality in the right places? Then, once the quality is brought in, what's the chances that MM will dispense with negative tactics?

We can live in hope...

we will sign no decent platers until mick has gone. Who would wan't to be sitting on the bench watcing no hopers like Douggie wave their arms about in a three yard circle. The best we can hope for is young loanees or other clubs old and injured rejects. MICK OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!
