Town Confirm Signing of Forest Green Striker Moore
Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 17:31

Town have confirmed the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Kieffer Moore on an 18-month deal, TWTD having revealed that the Blues were close to signing the 24-year-old earlier today.

Moore, who has previously played in the Championship for Yeovil, is understood to have cost a nominal fee believed to be in the region of £10,000 with his contract up at the end of the season.

The frontman, who is ineligible for Tuesday's FA Cup replay at Lincoln as he wasn't with the Blues when the first tie was played, was at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and watched this afternoon's match from the directors' box.

Torquay-born Moore, who is 6ft 5in tall, started his career with Truro City before moving on to Dorchester Town, Yeovil Town - with whom he played in the Championship in 2013/14 in which he scored five goals in 24 appearances in all competitions - and then Norwegian side Viking before signing for Vanarama National League side Forest Green in January last year, signing an 18-month deal. He joined another National League club Torquay on loan in November.

With Forest Green he has scored seven goals in 17 starts and 17 sub appearances, while he netted five times in four games for Torquay including a hat-trick. In November he won his first and only England C cap in a game against Estonia's U23s.

The striker is viewed as a prospect with the potential to play in the Championship, while the Blues are understood to have three bids in for higher profile players with Rotherham's Danny Ward - who is not in the Millers squad today - remaining a target.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has previously had success when delving into the non-league market, signing Michael Kightly from Grays when at Wolves and Tyrone Mings from Chippenham since taking over at Portman Road.

When Matty Taylor (currently of Bristol Rovers) was on loan at Forest Green he was also sent on loan to a fellow Conference side. He seems to of done alright from when Bristol took a chance on him. Might work out for this lad, it might not. Let's hope he goes mental and score 20!

This sort of signing excites me more than the usual loanees/off cuts from Prem teams.

Good luck Kieffer.

Good luck to the lad and welcome to the club. Seems a versatile player, apparently can play centre back, right back or striker so ideal in that respect.

Only found out about the defender thing as apparently he played centre back most games for Viking, hence no goals whilst there.

I hope it works out for him. Following Murphy is going to be tough and I hope nobody is expecting 20 goals from the lad before the end of the season. Fans were calling for a huge target man and Mick has delivered on that and on his promise to sign early in the transfer window. I have read the same stuff about his past...one Yeovil fan said he reminded him of Chris Sutton. It's not a bad thing to have a player on the field who can play centre back and striker. If we are looking for goals he can join the strikers from the back or alternatively link up with a back 5 when we are a couple of goals in front. Hope this doesn't mean that we abandon our passing system and go back to hoofing.....is he available against Lincoln or is he cup tied?

Don't think this will end our search for strikers. Still think we will make a big signing during this window.

Better than a 35 year + journeyman long past his best. Good luck Kieffer.

Hopefully will be a decent signing, worth a punt for a small fee. Much rather sign lower league/non league players at a decent age than get has beens or loan players who we have no chance in signing permanently imo.

norfstanda - you say it's about time that Town fans realise that we're not a big club in this league anymore and don't have the financial clout of teams like Newcastle, Villa, Wednesday, etc. and then you mention Bradley Dack who we've reportedly tried to sign before but Gillingham put a £5m price tag on his head..

He might be cheaper now he's not really doing much and isn't in form.

How is he being signed as one for the future if he's only been given an 18 month contract?

Michaell11, that's a reasonable comment, but as a relatively unknown player, a long contract would not make much sense either,Hopefully he will do well and if so a new contract offered.Already the lad is being subjected to ridicule by some on here, and he hasn't even worn the shirt yet . can you imagine the crap and pressure on him [and club] if he dosnt make the grade and was given a long contract .

happybeingblue.Dont think our scouts had much to do with it as he came to Micks notice first, when playing against us with Tom Lawrence for Yeovil in Championship game.

Similarly Tyrone Mings recommended by Russell Osman.

Hope he does well though like all Ipswich signings;but equally could turn out like Balint Bajner,Piotr Malarcyk and Giles Coke.

Only time will tell.

To be fair I am more interested in the 3 bids we have in for various players----if they do all come off that might just be enough.
