'Tristan Dyer' to Make First-Team Breakthrough This Season
Wednesday, 25th Jan 2017 10:51

Kieron Dyer expects 17-year-old midfielder Tristan Nydam - or Tristan Dyer, as he jokingly refers to him - to make his Town first-team debut before the end of the season.

The Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised academy product was on the bench for the first time for a competitive game at Huddersfield at the weekend, having previously come on as a sub for the senior side in the pre-season friendly at Cambridge United.

Dyer is a big fan of the first-year scholar, who he has kept a close eye on as he has progressed through the academy.

Nydam, who signed a pro deal in November, was on standby for the England U17s ahead of the European Championships last summer.

“Tristan will definitely make his debut before the end of the season,” Dyer told TWTD. “He’s been injured all over Christmas so I was surprised to see him on the bench because I don’t think he’s had much training or football.

“He’s an all-action player, he’s a completely different player to Andre Dozzell. Whereas Andre is more of a creator when he gets on the ball, Tristan is up and down the pitch, has an engine, is fast, strong, can tackle, can pass.

“I always joke and call him ‘Tristan Dyer’ because he’s quick and he’s got an engine, he can run all day. He’s definitely one to watch out for.

“He’s a humble boy, the way he plays is the way he trains, 110 per cent. He has a great attitude.

“Mick was probably never going to bring him on at Huddersfield because we were losing and the team are so fragile at the moment, but hopefully once we’re safe and there are a few games left before the end of the season, I definitely think Mick will give him a go.”

Meanwhile, Barnsley wideman or striker Marley Watkins is reported to have handed in a transfer request at Oakwell.

The 26-year-old is said to be interesting a number of clubs, including the Blues, who had a £1 million offer for him rebuffed in August, and Bristol City.

Watkins, who previously played for Terry Butcher at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Some Barnsley sources also claim Town are monitoring the situation of 23-year-old Tykes midfielder Josh Scowen, who is also out of contract in the summer.

Scowen joined Barnsley from Wycombe Wanderers in January 2015 for a fee of £240,000.

I can imagine the headline in May ' neck injury means youngster faces six months on the sidelines'.

Interesting talent this Nydam bloke, so sincerely best of luck to him... and I fear he's got need exactly that especially with the current archaic experience-fixated manager here!

But now that we are at this academy subject let's have a little ITFC QUIZZZ TIME shall we (heck I might even be unable to answer the following question myself as I feel a little amnesia-stricken today after my latest bionic implants! lol):

Who was the last academy player who had an GENUINE& ENDURING "breakthrough" under the Dino McCarthy here???
Rules Clarification: And by genuine & enduring "breakthrough" I the quizzz-master personally mean (your own definition may vary of course!) someone who subsequently became a fairly regular starter all by their own skillful doings and thus NOT just someone who get's his playing minutes predominantly due to some of the McCarthy 'favorites' being:
A) injured
B) under the weather / having diarrhea etc.
C) apparently are the subject of serious transfer talks
D) needing to rest their old "in a different class" wooden legs a game or two
E) or basically for the crystal clear purpose of just SHUTTING UP the ever growing number of fed-up ITFC fans who have been screaming for the youngster to get more 1st team chances (and thus also adhering to the lovely wording in ME's Noble Prize worthy '5 point plan' too! :-) for a game or two

....ohhh and who on top of A-E might also get told now and then, after btw having just come off a more than acceptable starting XI performance in the 1st team's lastest match that a certain next game "IS NOT FOR THEM" (like was the more than curious case for Andre Dozzell at the FA Cup replay with that awesome juggernaut Lincoln City) ???!!!

PS: As for the winning price??? Well I don't know really, as we are strapped for funds as you all know.... but hmmm how about the quickest to answer correctly wins a so called 'Romantic Evening for 2' -- ahhh make that for 3 -- with ME & his top attorney, in an ultra cozy Brazilian Police Special Fraud Unit's interrogation room??? :-) LMAO

Norwich won the fa youth cup in 2013 and both the murphy brothers came through their academy, just saying, think they probably doing better than us at present, we have hung our hopes on teddy bishop and that has been just more frustration due to constant injuries etc which seem to blight our current crop of so called ball players.
not sure why dids bishop etc always getting crocked ,not much use to us as it just messes up the plans for the season ahead every summer, will hyam ever get fit again?

Does anyone think Mick will pick this lad without pulling him at halftime or the game wasn't suitable or a number of other excuses poor lad should go and ply his trade at Leiston FC and play real football

I'm old enough to remember the days when we were known for throwing some of the youngsters in and giving them a chance to show what they can do (in their correct positions). To name a few, George Burley (debut against George Best, i believe), Terry Butcher, (if i remember correctly, first home or debut match against a powerful Liverpool side), and of course the very successful debut of (still a schoolboy) Jason Dozzell.

I'm not expecting the side to packed with 16-19 year olds, and wanting them to play 90 mins for the entire season. Just give some a chance to show what they can do, especially against the best sides. Do they seem to hide and be as quiet as a mouse, or do they demand the ball and get stuck in to their task? You soon find out what sort of stuff they're made from!

Any news item pretty much now just becomes a MM slagging session. I'm so bored I think I'll just read the actual news items and not bother with the comments as they may as well be cut and pasted from one item to the next. I want MM out too but it's all so predictable.

Making debut is one thing. Convincing MM to keep him in the side for the next match is something else altogether.

This is all very silly.

Just think of all the star quality midfielders in front of him such as Douglas, Skuse, Diagouga, Hyam and Coke.

I'm sure that Luke "inspiration" Chambers, given his extraordinary range of passing, could play there as well.

Perhaps we should put Kieron Dyer and Bryan Klugg in charge .At least youth would then take centre stage .I think the fans would love it as well !

@Lightningboy

Well I guess it turned out to be a "trick-question" after all didn't it my good sir? *smile*
(A notion strongly emphasized by not one single TWTD member daring having a regular go at an answer .... or maybe it was just that extraordinary special winning price that scared them all off? lol).

Honestly it really wasn't intended to be a 100% certain "trick-question" as I started on the post, but when I finished it and press 'add comment' I still wasn't sure in my own mind whether ANYBODY actually met the strict but fair criteria I outlined in detail above (and btw I was in fact somewhat lightheaded although not quite "amnesia-stricken" :-) on Wednesday afternoon after taking a very rare & unintentionally knock of a certain powerful proportion to the old coconut in my martial arts practice earlier! lol).
Anyway at the time of posting I guessed The Bishop might be the closest thing to meet said criteria ... without actually making them imo, and his injury-proneness aside he has of course largely been a huge disappointment in 2016 as even MM seems to think! as the Dino has somewhat harshly moved him in and out of the 1st team squad (when fit) from just one week to another on a couple of occasions this here season (all the while in typical MM fashion hyping him and his so called "importance" to the team's midfield up & up in the Media off course!)

Still open to sincere suggestions though if anyone feel like having go.... not the least because having "NO ONE!" as the answer is really kind of shocking isn't it now Mr. Marcus '5 Point Plan' Evans???

Just read that Berra will be used in a swap for Paterson of hearts.

Paterson a RIGHT BACK 😊 BUT out for 9months. 😭

Can't see it happening, but he is out of contract at heads and a great player.

So who knows, but if Webster is out and Berra Gone, would be very short at CB.

Who knows with this crazy management.
