McGoldrick and Bishop Back for Preston Trip
Thursday, 26th Jan 2017 14:26

David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop will both be in the Town squad visiting Preston North End on Saturday. McGoldrick has been out with a hamstring problem, while Bishop has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

“They have both trained, they’re both travelling to Preston which is good news for all of us,” manager Mick McCarthy said.

“We have missed them, it’s a been a tale of our season so far, but Didzy was excellent in training yesterday.

“Tuesday and Wednesday, both he and Bish trained really well and you can see when they come back what we’ve been missing.”

Keeper Bartosz Bialkowski is fine having missed last week’s defeat at Huddersfield as he was ill.

“Bart’s fine, he’s OK,” McCarthy said.“Bart has been the number one goalkeeper all year and that’s still the case for now.”

He added: Myles Kenlock is still suffering with the calf injury he picked up at QPR, he’ll be another two or three weeks. I’m hoping that’s all it will be. But other than that we’ve got a stronger squad.”

Looking at the longer term injuries, Tommy Smith is making progress after having back surgery in the autumn.

“Tommy Smith trained yesterday for the first time with the squad,” the Town boss added. “He’s nowhere near in terms of playing, I think he’ll play in an U23s game on February 4th, I think it is. And then hopefully after that he can be involved.

“Adam Webster has had his ankle operation. They’ve said he might get back for the last game of the season but unless he’s absolutely right that would be just nuts anyway.”

McCarthy says midfielder Luke Hyam, who hasn’t featured this season, is yet to return to training after his knee surgery.

“I’ve just had a long conversation with [physio] Matt Byard about him, we’ve got to get him out on the grass as soon as possible,” the Blues manager continued.

Also on the sidelines at present are Jonny Williams (shoulder) and Giles Coke (knee).

Good to have them both back in the squad for Saturday with Tommy getting there. You have to wander whether Coke will ever play again at this rate. No matter what you think of him as a player, it's tough for him as for any professional player. I feel for him - poor lad.

Great news. Just a few games from an uninjured DMG will make a positive difference.

Bish is a bit different, he just needs to build up some momentum, which will get him into games more.

Good to have them in the squad, this game is the last we can realistically expect to get something from for a while, after this we have Derby, Reading, Villa, Brighton, Leeds and then the Scum - all clubs at the top or with budgets which should be at the top

Would be nice if these two creative players could stay fit for the scum game. But sadly I fear that neither will last that long.

As for Hyam, I think we need to offload him in the summer if we can, sadly he's had it.

They'll come on as late subs, and will then be out injured until the season ends. FACTS.

Thought Mick seemed a bit more chipper when interviewed on club site;dont know whether he was like this at the press conference?

Perhaps this is because he has a few more players to choose from than recently, and should soon have a couple more.

Lets hope we get something out of the Preston game, who from what he says play similar to ITFC.

Not sure whether this is good or bad?

blue hook i totally agree sad to say, but fed up of the same players constantly getting injured, and its time for town fans to stop raving about bishop as i personally feel hes well over rated, think he believed his own hype !
