Town Confirm Loan Signing of Reading Striker Samuel
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2017 20:03

Town have confirmed the signing of Reading striker Dominic Samuel on loan for the rest of the season.

Southwark-born Samuel, 22, came through the Reading academy and has made eight starts and eight sub appearances for the Royals first team, scoring twice, in addition to loan spells at Colchester, Dagenham and Redbridge, Coventry and Gillingham.

Capped three times by the England U19s, scoring two goals, 6ft 2in tall Samuel netted six goals in 12 starts and one sub appearance for the Sky Blues during the second half of their 2014/15 League One campaign and then seven times in 24 starts and one sub appearance for the Gills between November 2015 and the end of last season, also in League One.

Prior to those spells he had made only two appearances with the U's and one with the Daggers, both without scoring.

Speaking about his plans for Samuel a few days ago, Reading manager Jaap Stam told getreading: "I think several teams are interested in Dom but we need to make a decision about that," said the manager.

"Because if you let somebody go you need to have somebody in as well. We know Dominic's quality, he's got ability which can help us out.

"But he is still a young player and needs to learn a lot, and for him it's very good if he can play week in, week out to develop.”

Samuel will be unable to face his parent club when they visit Portman Road on Saturday.

And I thought Ipswich had almost hit rock bottom...my transfer window prediction this week would be that we'd fail to get a 7 figured front man in but get a Premiership striker/Winger on loan for the rest of the season, we can't even do that!

by the way I think you'll find a majority of these 'negative' posts are aimed at the club/board not at the incoming player...please get your facts right.

Samuel had actually been training with York for a few days last week ahead of a loan move, which apparently fell through last night over the percentage of wages. I understand we offered 100% wages and a £175k loan fee this morning, with add ons for staying up. We also just missed out on bringing in Jon Parkin from York, But very likely we will go back for him in the Summer. He would certainly fit the Mick McCarthy mould, being a big, sh1t 30 something-year-old...

Battling with teams at the bottom of the National League for signatures, our club is a complete embarrassment.

In the Summer I suppose we should take on a new view about transfers:

If we are competing against Bristol City, Rotherham, Blackburn etc for a signature then it isn't true.
If North Ferriby Utd, Guiseley or Maidstone Utd are in for someone we are likely to get them first (even if no links).
The websites and papers need to stop linking us with reasonable players and start linking us with realistic players.

We can't be popular with York City fans. Coke and then Samuel taken from them last minute. Do our scouts go to the same games as the York City scouts or something?

Anyway, hope you prove everyone wrong Samuel and take this huge opportunity for you. Make a name for yourself and score a hatrick at Norwich....

The worst thing is we did not even try to fix the real problems within the squad. A dominant central midfielder and leader is desperately needed not wingers and third rate strikers. Our guys will score more regularly if we fix the midfield calamity we now have. Mick has relied on has beens and never were's like douglas and now we are left with nothing.
