Steijn: I've Not Spoken to Ipswich
Friday, 14th Apr 2017 10:17

Maurice Steijn, the manager of Dutch side VVV-Venlo, says rumoured interest in him from Town is “not an issue” and that he hasn’t spoken to the Blues.

Last week’s Steijn’s agent said he was aware of whispers linking Town and his client “through the grapevine” but said there had been no contact.

VVV will confirm promotion to the Eredivisie (Dutch top flight) if they win away against RKC Waalwijk this evening and look certain to be crowned Eerste Divisie champions.

Quizzed by Dutch TV channel L1 on the Town links, Steijn said: "It's not an issue. I have not spoken to Ipswich Town. First I want to win the match against RKC and then the championship.”

But VVV technical director, Stan Valckx, admitted that he expects interest in the 43-year-old: “I keep in mind that he might go. Good players can leave and it is the same with good coaches.”

Steijn is contracted to VVV for another year but with his deal allowing him to move on if he is offered the prospect of making a step up financially or football-wise. However, talks regarding a new contract are planned.

Current Blues boss McCarthy has another year on his Blues contract - with the club having an option for a further two seasons - but he said in January he will considering his future once Town are safe and having talked to owner Marcus Evans.

However, on Wednesday, McCarthy insisted had no intention of moving on of his own volition stating, “I’m not walking away from it. I’ll be here and I’ll be planning for next season and I’m looking forward to it.”

Some interesting points there MicksZzzTactics. About a year or two ago I compared the different leagues around Europe (not all the countries but most of the major leagues amongst them) to compare which ones enjoy the most goals. Surprisingly England didn't come out on top. Holland's top league came out on top. Second was the top league in Germany. Then it was the top league in Sweden. Next it was the Turkish top flight league. After which it was tied between the English Prem League and La Liga in Spain. Surprisingly Serie A in Italy just edged all the other English leagues. The lowest scoring top league was in France which was a just ahead of Portugal's top league as the lowest scoring league. But worst of all for low scoring matches (at least at the time I looked into it) was the English 4th Division or what is now the League Two. Things might have changed a little since then but I expect Holland is still right up there for goals and really I like how they tend to set teams up to attack in a positive fashion rather than try and just keep things tight and hope to nick a goal on a set piece, yawn yawn yawn!!! The difference in style between a Dutch manager and Mick McCarthy would be like chalk and cheese!

BOHSLENG! A totally ignorant post! Who had heard of David Wagner before this season? a guy who was managing a reserve team in Germany last season.

We all have now, great credit to huddersfield for being brave and going for it, its what is needed at ITFC.

We need a Muck out!
