Diagouraga Leaves Town
Wednesday, 3rd May 2017 11:26

Loan midfielder Toumani Diagouraga has revealed he has departed Portman Road due to the groin injury which ruled him out of Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Diagouraga, 29, joined the Blues from Leeds, for whom he hadn’t featured since August, on a half-season loan in January and went on to make 10 starts and two sub appearances without scoring.

The Parisian said at Saturday's Player Awards Evening that he would be interested in joining the Blues on a permanent basis in the summer. He has another year left on his Leeds contract but has said he will have to find a new club in the close season.

Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy said he would speak to loan players such as Diagouraga and Emyr Huws about their futures after the final game of the season.

Shame about 'Dave', I personally thought he had a bit of a presence about him when he first arrived, unfortunately though, he faded towards the end of season, so imo not a vast improvement on what we have.
I can personally guarantee however, that if our much loathed Dino is here next season then Skuse will be a nailed on starter!! but you all know that!!

Made me chuckle when he was described by a BBC commentator recently as 'an agricultural type of player'.

I tend to agree with most of the posts above.
I'd have him in the team ahead of Skuse when fit, but there's no guarantee of his fitness and the security of a 2/3 contract won't improve that.
As Cookycrew says, the dynamic of him, with Huws and Ward in the midfield looked really good and offered as positive a style of football through the middle as we've had in years.
I accept that he didn't look as good when he was back in the team later on, but Skuse was back playing then too, so his role was different and the style of play with it.
I'm not saying he is exactly what we are looking for and nor am I particularly disappointed that he is leaving the club; but I think he offered us something; perhaps a view of how the team could play week in week out if we had a better, more positive minded anchor in the middle of the park.

I wish' Dave 'all the best wherever he ends up.

By no means the worst player on our books, and looked ok when Skuse wasn't playing.

Gcon I also thought that when Bam Bam said during the recent game away at Rotherham, Diagouraga looked as if he was towing a caravan amusing too!

Seasider - given the agricultural phrase, he might have mean't a plough!! it would also explain the state of the pitch!

Hopefully the first of many who need releasing after a shambles of a season the worst i can remember in my many yrs of supporting the club including john duncan/mick mcgiven era, i dont normally pass judgement on peoples comments as each to their own and the great game of football is all about opinions, but BLUEBELL i assume you are joking :) with this squad relegation is a certainty next season

Really liked him, but not surprised. He never really got the burners going!

A good attacking player but not really needed. Mick signed Ryan Fraser last season and Lawrence this. We'll get another fantastic midfielder next season. Good luck for your future, Toumani.

Certainly don't agree with the...."if he was any good Leeds would have kept him"!!. We cant say "if Huws was any good Cardiff would have kept him". Not only was he good,he was the best central midfield player we've had in the past 3 seasons !!
