Smith and Patterson in All Whites Confederations Cup Squad
Wednesday, 7th Jun 2017 20:17

Town duo Tommy Smith and Monty Patterson have both been named in New Zealand’s confirmed 23-man squad for the Confederations Cup in Russia later this month.

Head coach Anthony Hudson has been able to select the same squad which was involved in the pre-tournament friendlies against Northern Ireland and League of Ireland side Cabinteely with no one having picked up an injury.

The All Whites travel to St Petersburg from their current base in Dublin on Friday ahead of their final friendly against Belarus in Minsk on Monday.

In the Confederations Cup itself New Zealand will take on the hosts in St Petersburg in the opening group game on Saturday 17th June, Mexico in Sochi four days later and then Portugal back in St Petersburg on Saturday June 24th.

Central defender Smith, 27, will be out to add to his 32 caps and two international goals, while 20-year-old Patterson, a midfielder or striker who is yet to make his senior debut for the Blues, has previously won 10 caps, netting once.
