Bishop Out for the Rest of the Season Thursday, 28th Dec 2017 15:57
Midfielder Teddy Bishop has been ruled out for the season after rupturing his hamstring in Boxing Day’s 0-0 home draw with QPR.
The 21-year-old, who was making his first start of the season and only his second of 2017, was forced off after 40 minutes of Tuesday’s match and, following scans, has been told he requires surgery.
“Bish needs surgery which is devastating for all of us,” manager Mick McCarthy told the club site.
“He’s a great lad and the lads all love him but, of course, the one that is suffering the most at the moment is Bish himself. "
“It will be another challenge for him, both physically and mentally but he will get great support from everyone at the club and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Bishop, who has made only 28 senior appearances since the end of his breakthrough 2014/15 campaign due to a succession of injury problems, had only just returned from a hernia operation he underwent in August.
The Cambridge-born youngster's contract is up at the end of the season but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further year.
Tough news to take knowing I’m out for the season and need an operation but look forward to seeing the boys push for a play off place. Bring on 2018 💪ðŸ¼âš½ï¸ðŸ’™ #itfcpic.twitter.com/zI4qwWTSYP
Town already have two other central midfielders, Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee), ruled out for the season, while four other midfield players are also currently sidelined, Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Flynn Downes (calf), Tristan Nydam (hip) and Luke Hyam (knee). Kevin Bru missed the Boxing Day game as he was at a funeral.

Have said it a number of times our style of play leads to injuries , short sharp bursts of closing teams at a high tempo , physical style while majority of other teams have a lot more possession. Will definitely need to get in a replacement in January for 3 players out for season
I feel very sorry for Ted who deserves our full support for another recovery.
Some very good suggestions from Edmundo and Legend of the Phoenix. Here is another thought. Are today's boots providing sufficient overall support? I inherited a pair of Stanley Matthews boots from my brother which served me well.
When Ipswich won the First Division title in 1962, the Easter weekend entailed 3 games in 4 days (Chelsea and Arsenal away and Arsenal at home). Not only that we fielded the same team for each game without any subs! The pitches were churned up pretty well by then as well. Today's boots are made with glove like leather and bear a closer resemblance to carpet slippers rather than boots to engage in battle and provide necessary support.
I reckon McCarthy would have taken him off at half time vs QPR anyway because he clearly wasn't following orders - keeping possession, dribbling at the opposition into their half and passing the ball on the ground to a blue shirt - it will never do.
wayway We may have already sorted out a replacement....Toumani Diagouraga. He has not accepted an extension to his contract at Plymouth and is free Jan 1st. Wasn't particularly exciting whilst he was with us....but seems injury free.
Heard Douglas had a trial at Luton and has a trial lined up (think Barnet?) for the new year...so unlikely to return. Could do a reasonable job in League 2. I know he gets bashed a lot here...but when he was with us he wasn't the player wearing the "special" jersey every training session. I remember seeing him run rings around Coke with ease in training. Unfortunately, that may have led to overconfidence and make him think he can take on similar opposition players in the same way, which didn't happen.
Dinosaur training, fitness and tactics. We now have no midfield left. No money to buy or loan a player. Paying for a team of injured players. Out of the play-offs. Sliding down the table. Out of contract manager and players. Bart leaving for Crystal Palace. What do you have to do to get sacked in the Marcus Evans organisation??
Feel sorry for the lad but is he really ever gonna make the grade at Ipswich!! Yes he's only 21 and still got loads of time to establish himself, too many injuries though could ruin his chances at town now. We do need some fit midfielders urgently.
cant see why some posters are being down marked for saying what they've said, I have doubted for a long time that ''Bish'' would get back to playing regular, its sad,and hard for the lad, but its also a fact of life that in any physical sport there are occasions and individuals that never fully recover the fitness ,Bishop has had such a long time out I personally never even expected him to play for us again,Good luck to him,but his future at the club has to be in doubt now .
I am sure that a lot of people on here who have marked down those who have said don't renew his contract, have done so out of sympathy for Teddy Bishop;but when a player has had so many inuries surely it is right to question whether extending his contract is the best thing to do,especially from a pecuniary perspective.
Similarly it is right to question the preparation for matches ie are the iced baths necessary?
I think in this instance Bishop would be worth given time but unfortunately last chance saloon! In regards to onfield, no choice but to play plenty of strikers! We're used to fist and foot pumping the way the crow flys. ...thus as you were!
Swn98 ......... speak for yourself - I'm quite capable of doing so myself, without your continuous pathetic posts and opinions.
You should know that a minus is a negative - even you should know that ... !! - the amount you get assigned to your posts ..... Doesn't it tell you something .. ??
