Milts Opens Bar

Supporters in Bury St Edmunds looking for a venue to watch World Cup matches might like to pay a visit to former Town midfielder Simon Milton's new Abbeygate Street bar. Another former Town star, Richard Wright, will cut the ribbon at the 'Miltons' invitation-only opening this evening.

Miltons is converted from another bar previously on the site, and Simon says the refurbishment has gone very well: "It went surprisingly smoothly thanks to the builders MC Contracts and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it opening."

The walls of one of the rooms will be adorned with large posters of fans in the Portman Road stands. "Take a look, I'm sure you'll see one or two familiar faces," according to Milton.

Miltons will be open for all England's World Cup matches, even the pre-breakfast time Nigeria match. For other early morning games the bar will open, but fans will have to book in advance (number below). After the World Cup it will open at usual bar hours.

The opening of the bar does mean that Milton will no longer be covering games for SGR FM next season. However, he will continue to work two days a week at the Town's Academy and welcomes today's news that Darren Ambrose has signed a new four-year deal: "Darren Ambrose has really kicked on this season because he's seen his mate do well.

"He's in the same digs as Darren Bent and he's seen him getting in the first team and getting some goals. Darren Ambrose has gone 'Oh my God, look at him!' and he's got his head down and improved and improved, and deserved the debut he got at Arsenal.

"He'll be in the side regularly next season, I don't mean he's going to start in the first game necessarily, but he'll be amongst the players that George Burley is picking from throughout the season.

"That they gave him a four-year deal shows him how highly he is rated. If he keeps progressing as he has recently then he could go a very long way."

Miltons can be found at 22 Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds. If you want to watch one of the matches arranged for an inhospitable time, give Simon a call on 01284 749400.
