Hyam Reveals Town Exit
Monday, 7th May 2018 23:39

Midfielder Luke Hyam has revealed he has been released by the Blues.

The 26-year-old academy product, who recently returned to action after a frustrating couple of injury-hit seasons, is out of contract this summer with Town evidently not having taken up their option to keep him for a further year.

“My time at Ipswich Town has come to an end. After 15 years, I want to say a massive thanks to all the players and staff, past and present who have been part of my journey,” the former Northgate High School pupil posted on Instagram.

“I’ve been very fortunate and privileged to play for the team I supported as a child and to achieve all my goals I set out over the years.

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my career. I wish all the boys the very best for the following season.”

Hyam made 118 starts and 28 sub appearances for his hometown club, scoring three goals. He spent a month on loan at Rotherham during 2015/16, making two starts and three sub appearances.

Coincidentally, he made his debut as a starter on the opening day of the 2010/11 season in the Blues’ 3-1 win at Middlesbrough and played his last game for Town as a 77th minute sub during Sunday’s final game of the season 2-2 draw with the Teessiders.

Best of luck Luke. Sad to see you go as I have always regarded you as someone that always gave it all and the long period of injuries hasn't helped but I hope you now remain fit and find a new club soon where I wish you well. Thanks for all you've done for Town over the years.

I should imagine Bryan klug had a big say in who gets new deals and who doesn't! If he thought hyam would have played a big role for the new gaffer I imagine he would have told Marcus to sign him up! League 1 player at best we all know that to be true!

Before he left MM would have given Evans advice on contracts

I think it's strange that this decision wasn't left for the new manager.

However, good player though he is, he did not develop as I hoped; possibly due to injuries.

This makes it very important that we sign Connolly on a permanent deal.

Right decision. Sad as he really loves the club but development hampered by injury. He needs week in week out footy. Col U or Cambs or Luton all goof fits

Another statement of intent that we are moving forward. Some players will see more of the treatment room, than the pitch ..... for whatever reason. Luke fits that bill.

Even though I admired his passion and can't fault his commitment I never really was a big fan of Hyam out on the pitch. Early doors he showed some potential and if my memory serves me right the like of Everton might of shown some level of interest. However, he never really developed or progressed to the level we would of hoped. I think Downes would be a better option and Skuse has impressed me more of late. Never thought I'd say this but Skuse does seem to have put in some decent shifts when I've seen him more of late. He nearly even scored Sunday, now that would of been a shocker! If Skuse keeps playing like he did Sunday he'll make a convert out of me yet! My thinking is we don't really need Skuse, Hyam and Downes, given the choice of 2 from those 3 I'd go with Skuse and Downes. Good luck Luke, your career could still flourish elsewhere if you can get a better run of luck by staying injury free but sadly it just hasn't quite happened for you here. Time for a change and a new challenge and really hope he kicks on somewhere else as he deserves a change of luck in his career as nobody can deny how hard he tries.

Correct decision. Not good enough to play Championship football even when fully fit. Glad he's gone to be honest

Always been a fan of Luke Hyam. But in reality if we are to move forward - as a club - we need changes. No point keeping everyone.

Luke is unfortunately injury prone. This is a good decision.

Best of luck Luke.

I wish him well but if it came don to a straight choice between Hyam and Teddy Bishop it shows me the club are heading in the right direction

Correct decision by club in my opinion, whether it be MM,Marcus,Brian ,the new manager;or a combination of all 4.

Good luck though Luke, feel you have a future in the game;possibly at a lower level though.
