Bialkowski and Waghorn in Squad for Barnet Friendly
Friday, 20th Jul 2018 16:16

Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski will play his first game of pre-season against Vanarama National League Barnet on Saturday afternoon, while Town have confirmed that much-coveted striker Martyn Waghorn will be in the party which travels to The Hive (KO 3pm).

Bialkowski was back at Portman Road on Monday, following his post-World Cup break, when the 31-year-old Poland international immediately put pen to paper on a new contract which runs until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further year.

“I’m delighted to get him on board and I’ll see him on Saturday for the first time in a game when I’m his manager," boss Paul Hurst said yesterday.

Waghorn is the subject of interest from Sheffield United, Derby County, Birmingham City and Middlesbrough among others, while Nottingham Forest have also been linked.

Town are taking a 19-man squad which is likely to be very similar to the one which beat Crawley Town 1-0 at East Grinstead on Tuesday evening.

Tickets are available on the gate at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (65-plus and 17-21-year-olds) and £1 for under-17s.

The Blues last played at Barnet in the summer of 2016 when John Akinde’s 68th-minute penalty saw the Bees to a 1-0 victory.

Another game for our players to get used to what PH wants of them. Result is not that important but a win would be nice. Things are changing so we must be patient.

Interesting to see if Waggy plays?
Not sure if they'd risk those legs at around 4 million a piece if there were any firm offers that were being considered??

Waghorn is a Town player, play him. He is paid a damn good salary by the club, play him.

Wish people would just stop banging on about the rumours. Just rumours!

Sell Waghorn and we will be right up against it like we were the season before last - Starting on the back foot with no main striker when ME & MM made the stupid decision to sell Murphy and we never got a replacement.

Evans has form for turning down big bids - remember the £8m for Didz (ah, hindsight...). I expect us to rebuff anything unless or until Waggy tells us he wants to go (someone might decide to pay him 25k a week...)

Agreed linhdi.

Evans is happy to sell defenders, but not 'gold dust' strikers like Waggy who are hard to replace.

Warkys_Tash Dont think MM was to pleased about Murphy just he held his own council unlike our new manager who seems to want everything to be out in the public domain.
Not always a good thing imo.
