Hurst on Championship: Some Good Performances But Not Too Much to Fear
Thursday, 23rd Aug 2018 19:13

Town manager Paul Hurst says that although he has seen some good performances from teams in the Championship this season he has also seen quite a lot which don’t strike him with fear.

“I think there have been some good performances from teams that I’ve seen,” he said. “I’ve also seen quite a bit else that I have to say doesn’t strike me with fear and shouldn’t the players.

“But until we get more points on the board, we’re going to be at that other end [of the table] and perhaps for me that’s just the frustration from watching some games and thinking, ‘I don’t believe either of those teams has performed as well as we’ve done’.

“However, one of the teams has maybe gone on to win it or score goals from performances that aren’t very good.

“I think in general, not too much to fear I would suggest, albeit we know that there are some teams that clearly are going to be stronger than others and some very technically gifted players, but overall in terms of our work-rate, approach, organisation, I think we look a decent-ish team, despite the fact we haven’t managed to turn a performance into victories and got a few more points on the board.”

While the league table, which shows Town in 21st, means little after four games, Hurst admits it’s difficult to avoid.

“You can’t help it can you?" he added. "You play the first game and suddenly there’s a league table at the side of the results.

“It doesn’t count for anything but at the same time it’s nice if you catch a glance of it or even just hear people speak about it that you’re not in that position.

“As we speak now I’m aware of where we supposedly are in this table. So the quicker we can get away from that sort of position, the better we’ll all feel.”

He says a win will do much to build belief within the squad: “Big, I think. I want a win for me from a selfish point of view but most importantly a win for everyone, fans included.

“It will just make everyone feel that little bit happier and it gets a monkey off your back and there’s still quite a few teams across the divisions that will be looking to get that result come the weekend.

“Clearly we’re interested in ourselves and the next opportunity is against Sheffield Wednesday.”

This early on it'd be CRAZY to give up the faith!!!

I am looking forward to things clicking into place, people finding their roles and then let the winning begin.

Onwards and upwards Paul.

If we lose on Saturday, the Norwich game becomes a must-win game! At the moment I can't see us keeping a clean sheet or scoring more than 1 goal to win the game. I hope PH proves me wrong, however, I do fear the worse!

Amazing this used to be a club that gave managers time. We're changing our playing style it takes a bit of time had Evans done it in January all the problems would've been ironed out by now. Everyone needs to be patient there's only been 4 league games start worrying in October if they haven't but I do remember a derby team being bottom or near bottom in October and I think they went up. Too many people like to moan and enjoy it.

Hurst is beginning to sound dangerously delusional. Of course he hasn't seen much to fear - this is a division of near equality. And I doubt anyone is looking at Town with anything other than open-mouthed disbelief at present either.

Such negativity on here. Everyone wants instant results and instant success. Some on here would be moaning if we were 2nd in the league. For god's sake people support your club!!!! Having a pop at the manager already? Get a life.

'Not too much to fear' - good job because if we did play a club that made us fearful we'd probably get demolished going on what has happened so far.

No opponent in any league to fear or be bothered about. That's the way you should roll in any sport
