Town manager George Burley has neither confirmed nor denied interest in Viborg midfielder Thomas Frandsen. TWTD revealed yesterday that the 26-year-old was reportedly being targeted by the Blues.

Any move for Frandsen, watched by Town at the weekend, looks certain to depend on out-going transfers with cash currently low at Portman Road.

Despite the lack of funds, Burley admitted that he is keeping an eye on potential signings for later reference: "We have looked at a number of players and we could follow up our interest in the future."

It looks increasingly likely that Frandsen is being lined-up as a possible replacement for Matt Holland should the Town skipper move on. While Burley continues to say that Holland is "the last player" he would want to lose, both he and David Sheepshanks have previously admitted that every player has his price.

Burley says he expects to have made no new signings by the time 2002/03 commences on August 10th: "I very much doubt if we will have any new faces in the squad by the time the season starts on Saturday week."

This, however, does not rule out players coming in prior to the end of the transfer window on August 31st.

Should Town receive serious offers for Holland and/or other players by then, the Blues could find themselves in a position to look to Frandsen or any other players currently being watched.

Danish international Frandsen is a tough-tackling midfielder who is out of contract at Viborg at the end of the season. He is likely to cost somewhere arounf the £500,000-£700,000 mark.
