Ex-Blues Boss Hurst Sacked By Scunthorpe Wednesday, 29th Jan 2020 16:57 Former Town boss Paul Hurst has been sacked by Scunthorpe United only eight months after taking charge.
Hurst and his Town assistant Chris Doig were relieved of their duties this afternoon following last night’s 3-0 defeat at Northampton which leaves the Iron in 16th place in League Two.
“Scunthorpe United would like to announce that manager Paul Hurst and assistant manager Chris Doig have left their positions at the club with immediate effect,” a club statement reads.
“We thank them for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them well for the future.”
Hurst's record at Glanford Park, having taken over in May last year, reads played 38, won 12, drew 10 and lost 16.
The Scunthorpe job was Hurst’s first in football after his disastrous 149-day spell with the Blues.

Not normally one to laugh at the misfortune of others, but couldn't have happened to a nicer couple of blokes. I suspect that's the last we see of either of them in a professional dugout.

Scunthorpe board meeting with Paul Hurst, "Thank you for coming Paul. Today we're pleased to inform you that we're going to mix business with pleasure. As such, you're fired!"

the individual at our club responsible for employing Paul Hurst should take a long hard look at themselves now and learn a lot. It's not nice to heap poo at a mans misfortune, a clueless numpty like me could see PH should have been nowhere near a position at ITFC.

I don't know Paul Hurst and I suspect none of you do either, being in football management is a very difficult job, there are many factors that effect performance. However laughing at anyone who has just lost their job (whatever that job is) is in poor taste in my opinion, it says a great deal about some of you.

A few people forgetting that Evans responded to many fans who said appoint a young manager. He did then rightly sacked him.

I wonder how many of the above commenters, were gung-ho about getting PH in at the time, but are now pretending otherwise? A good many is my guess.

Isn't their results and league position just about what a club like Scunthorpe can expect?

Cornishblu managers only tell the numbskull section of fans to F/O i would assume you come into that category. Are you glad what you wished for? a club going no where.

Hey PositivelyPortman I WAS highly enthused about Hurst's appointment, yes. But...... like a lot of fans I found I could not connect to him at all and nor it seems could the players. I had an inside line to the dressing room via my son at the time and he was not Mr. Popular. In light of WHAT I learnt. I'll stick with my light guffaw at his expense.

Sympathy for your average Joe who loses his job, yes. Not for Hurst. This egomaniac destroyed the confidence of our most senior players and showed utter disrespect toward them, some of whom have come out publicly since, some have made reference to it at the very least. The fact that Scunthorpes results and league position don't necessarily warrant a sacking suggests to me there is a greater underlying problem with him and his henchman. Make no mistake, he'll not struggle to pay his mortgage and will be back on the managerial merry-go-round in no time at all. Good luck to his next victim, you'll need it!

So neither learnt from their time at Ipswich that just shouting and screaming at players doesnt win you games.

It makes you wonder how he managed to do so well at Shrewsbury. Because it seems to me he lacks any man management skills.

Not a bad record in the short time he was at Scunthorpe, have seen much worse and Managers survive, because it's impossible if rebuilding is necessary in eight months. However, it is a results business and not all Clubs are as lenient as ITFC obviously - even at lower level than the ‘old' third division.
